Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Job Scope
The Machinist is responsible for tools and equipment to maintain and build production tooling by making downstream tooling, dies, and rebuilding of downstream related equipment needed to support the manufacturing and distribution needs of the company (with a foremost priority of safety).
Essential Functions:
· Ability to read and interpret machinist’s blueprints.
· Ability to operate and program manual & CNC mills, conventional lathes, drill press, surface grinder, horizontal and vertical band saws, and wire EDM machinery.
· Ability to use and interpret all necessary instruments related to the measuring and miking of the tool making processes.
· Receive verbal directions from others regarding work assignments to be performed.
· Perform work orders and maintain all documentation related to the work order system.
· Fabricate parts utilizing machine shop equipment related tools.
· Order and request quotes on parts needed to maintain die shop equipment.
· Maintain an orderly and clean work area and maintain machine tools.
· Drive forklift.
· Promote safety.
· Must be able to interact with employees in a professional manner at all times.
Minimum Education and Experience:
· Excellent at receiving verbal directions from others regarding operations and assignments to be performed. Good at referring to work orders, drawings, manuals, conversion tables and similar source information.
· Excellent motor skills (hand/eye coordination) are necessary for the use of equipment used on this job.
· All education, diplomas, certificates, experience, etc. will be reviewed and utilized in determining grade level.
Preferred Experience:
· Computer-aided design (CAD) & Computer-aided Manufacturing (CAM) programming experience
Job Standards and Equipment:
· Must be able to stand for a minimum of ten hours.
· Must be able to lift work-in-process which could weigh between 50 to 100 pounds.
· Able to carry 50 pounds.
· Conventional lathe, 2 & 3 Axis mill, wire EDM machine, surface grinders, tool grinders, welding equipment, drill press, horizontal and vertical band saws, forklifts, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, ear protection.
Job Location/Environment/Surroundings:
All manufacturing and distribution facilities. Noise levels require the use of ear protection. Due to noise levels, verbal communications may, at times, be difficult. Die shop is air conditioned. Floor is concrete with no floor covering.
