May supervise and guide work of lower level mail clerks. Additionally, Mail Clerk, Sr. typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a Mailroom Supervisor. Communication: Clerks need to speak and write in English & Spanish with people in order to make sure a good communication between customer and clerk is well understood.
Technology Skills: Clerks need to be knowledgeable on computer programs, faxes, and cell phone apps to be able to help customers with their shipments, purchases and returns.
Listening, talking and understanding is very important to the job.
Dexterity: Clerks need to know how to manage their time to sort volumes of mail, and being good with your hands and having good hand/eye coordination is important.
Stamina: Clerks spend much of their day on their feet, and may need strength to deliver large boxes of mail or heavy packages.
Organizational Skills: Clerks need to sort the mail in a way so that delivery is easy and fast. Having good organizational skills will help.
Creativity: Clerks may be creative, there is some Gift Wrapping involved.
