Maintenance Planner devises plans and programs for routine preventative maintenance and scheduled turnaround events at a plant or production facility. Accurately defines and estimates required work requests and maintains a consistent tracking system for work orders. Being a Maintenance Planner develops inspection and survey procedures to ensure an effective preventative maintenance system. Works closely with technicians, engineers, operations, and managers to establish a schedule of proactive maintenance activities during appropriate downtime. Additionally, Maintenance Planner utilizes planning and scheduling methods to ensure the most effective and least disruptive maintenance possible. Typically uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking and planning maintenance. Monitors spare parts inventory to ensure availability of required parts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. May require a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Maintenance Planner work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Job Summary: The Maintenance Planner & Buyer (MPB) is responsible for scheduling maintenance activities in a manner that minimizes the impact on production, while obtaining the goals required for asset reliability. The MPB evaluates the need for replacement parts, obtains competitive quotes, and places orders. The MPB will be responsible for assuring correct stock levels of the maintenance spare parts area and buying replacement or new stock items required. They will be responsible for maintaining correct inventory accuracy in the spare parts and maintenance area. The MPB will provide professional, quality service and support for the maintenance team to ensure smooth, continuous, and efficient production flow. The successful associate will be able to identify and prioritize multiple projects with a continuous focus on ways to improve processes. They will also lead, delegate, direct the tasks of a specialized team (i.e., Utilities, Electrical or PLC), while providing support and general direction to all Maintenance Technicians or specific contractors. The maintenance planner will also be responsible for maintaining adequate 3rd party maintenance contracts are scheduled and performed to the standards expected by the maintenance team.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The Maintenance Planner I is required to work primarily in an office environment but regularly on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently will be exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and/or cold. The associate frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places, and has to the risk of exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The incumbent will be exposed to loud noises from production equipment and thus will be required to wear PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be high at times due to production and mechanical equipment noise.
