    SUMMARY
    This position is responsible for securing funds for the agency by managing a group of current and prospective individual donors with potential to give $10,000 or more. This position is accountable for fundraising efforts, such as identification, cultivation, solicitation, retention, and stewardship of major individual donors and prospects. Their work will raise funds to help drive the expansion of our major gifts growth plan and our current capital campaign A Place for Us, raising $17.9 million for renovation of MOCSA’s new home.


    JOB OBJECTIVES

    I. Donor Engagement & Development


    a. Manage a portfolio of 120-140 prospective donors with the capacity to make $10,000 outright gifts annually.
    b. Meet annual portfolio goals, with increasing revenue goals upon portfolio maturity, through solicitations for general, project, and special event support.
    c. Collaborate on setting goals and monitoring progress toward major and planned gift goals in annual development plan with President & CEO, VP of Development and Director of Individual and Corporate Giving.
    d. Continually develop prospects through a variety of sources, including own network, board, volunteers, and current donors.


    II. Donor Database


    a. Create and execute individual engagement and solicitation plans annually for each qualified donor in the portfolio, and work with Data Specialist to add actions and opportunities to Raiser’s Edge.
    b. Track all donor plans, interactions, and solicitations in Raiser’s Edge within 24-48 hours, including a minimum of 100 personal donor touchpoints per month, in addition to departmental touchpoints like newsletters, event invitations, etc.
    c. Review donor records, action and opportunity records, and reports to ensure accurate portfolio data, and report to Director of Individual and Corporate Giving on portfolio progress monthly.


    III. Donor Engagement and Stewardship


    a. Engage each portfolio donor personally to qualify capacity, build rapport, and identify philanthropic passions and interests. Collaborate with President/CEO, VP of Development, Director of Individual and Corporate Giving, and Board of Directors for donor outreach as needed to maximize each engagement.
    b. Coordinate major gifts cultivation and recognition events with the support of the development team.
    c. Understand and abide by MOCSA’s Gift Acceptance Policy, AFP Donor Bill of Rights, and confidentiality requirements when working with donors, volunteers, and the public.

    IV. Media and Communications

    a. Articulate the case for support, key initiatives, and fundable opportunities: prepare presentations, materials, letters, and other required literature for solicitations with support from the development team.
    b. Attend public gatherings, receptions and cultivation events as required.
    c. May occasionally serve as a public representative of MOCSA, this may include written, recorded, videotaped, and photographed images, voice, and name in online, video and printed publications.
    d. Work with development and communications team to create and produce materials to market specific programs, campaigns or planned giving efforts.


    The responsibilities described represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to do all assigned responsibilities. Grant funds may only be used for the provision of approved activities.


    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
    Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3 years of demonstrated success in major gift fundraising and/or sales. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other similar development software. Experience in public speaking, public relations and writing campaign materials. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and projects.

    Preferred Qualifications
    10 or more years’ experience in the aforementioned skills. Expertise in donor relations, marketing, and capital campaigns. Master’s degree and/or CFRE highly preferred.

    Work is typically performed in an office environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    Mental Demands
    While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with board of directors, administration, staff, funders, donors, media, and others encountered in the course of work.


    WORK HOURS
    This is a full-time position; business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


    TRAVEL
    Frequent travel throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area to perform leadership and fund development duties.


    BENEFITS
    Full time benefits include 15 days of vacation, 16 paid holidays, 12 sick days, birthday holiday, winter break, 89% employer covered health insurance, 100% employer paid dental, life, and long-term disability Insurance, and 2% 403(b) match.
