    Position Summary: As our Major Gift Officer, you will design, develop, and implement our major gift program. You will be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key. You will be expected to energize team members and persuade prospects.

     

    Hybrid work environment available following successful operations orientation. Position participates in necessary onsite and offsite meetings.

     

    This position has a Salary range of $60,000 - $75,000 depending on depth of experience. 

    Responsibilities

    • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization.
    • Secure major gifts at the $10,000 to $100,000 level with the goal of raising over $1M annually.
    • Work within our systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database, Boomerang, and wealth screening tools.
    • Manage existing portfolio of 100-150 donors and prospects.
    • Work with the philanthropy and engagement department to align efforts and set goals.
    • Create and implement moves management plans.
    • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the DPE and other staff with their solicitation (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications)
    • Expected to have 3-5 meetings with donors weekly, and at least 10 solicitations each month.
    • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition, manage all donor recognition and thank you processes.
    • Track and report progress using specific metrics established with DPE.
    • Create and manage a planned giving program.

    • Demonstrated results in soliciting and closing major gifts with capability to advance gift strategies through effective relationship building.
    • Solid experience creating and leading planned giving programs.
    • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced environment focused on providing excellent customer and donor experience.
    • Strong software skills in creating original documents, reports, mobile communications and electronic messaging.
    • Must be comfortable working in an animal shelter around cats, dogs, rabbits and other animals on a daily basis.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • 3 years of proven track record in successful major gift fundraising and planned to give.
    • Experience in animal shelters and/or nonprofit organizations a plus.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and fundraising database management a must.

    Additional Requirements

    • Possess a valid driver’s license.

    Work Conditions

    • Must be comfortable working around with all types of pets including dogs, cats etc.
    • Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs.
    • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, and high noise levels.
    • Work schedule and hours may vary; evenings and weekends may be required.
    • Schedule Mon – Fri, nights and weekends possible depending on events.
