Managing Attorney is responsible for managing the daily operations of a law firm or an organization's legal department. Provides leadership and participates in the most complex legal actions. Being a Managing Attorney directs law office operations, case assignments, and staffing. Oversees the activities and work products of subordinate attorneys. Additionally, Managing Attorney monitors case status, timelines, and issues. Mentors and coaches attorneys and implements staff professional development programs. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to top legal executive. The Managing Attorney manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Managing Attorney typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 7, seeks a qualified candidate to provide legal support services to the prosecutors in the Halifax County office. Duties include but are not limited to the following: answer phones; assist the public; type correspondence; prepare legal documents; prepare files; assist victims and witnesses understand and prepare for court; gather information to assist in the prosecution of cases; and other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies



    Knowledge of: court system and procedures; legal terminology; and community resources to refer victims and witnesses.

    Skill in: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; accurately typing 35-40 wpm; and answering a multi-line telephone system.

    Ability to: interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses to assure appropriate services; coordinate and schedule the daily operations of the victim and witness program; manage the court appearances of victims and witnesses to ensure their presence in the courtroom when needed; communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public; and calmly handle stressful situations.


    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements



    Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.
