The Opportunity
The Accountant will assist with the Accounting and Finance functions for the division. This position will be focused on inventory movement (receiving, issuing, shipping), accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger accounting for capital assets, leased assets and transactions with related companies in the AGI group.
The Team
This role will report directly to the Divisional Controller and work with the Divisional finance team.
Responsibilities
- Monitor receiving of inventory, ensuring purchase order and invoice pricing are verified. Also working with local procurement team to ensure average cost of on-hand inventory is accurate.
- Work with local and global procurement teams to ensure vendor terms are being adhered to and that payments are processed timely.
- Track capital asset spend against budget, account for additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, and any gain/loss on disposals.
- Track leased asset spend against budget, account for additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, lease interest and lease payments.
- Perform accounting for intercompany transactions to and from related companies, including expenses allocated and ensuring purchase orders, sales orders, and related invoicing is done per internal transfer pricing processes.
- Work with internal and external audit groups and provide requested information, perform walkthroughs, and generally manage audit relations.
- Manage freight spend to ensure all freight costs were accounted for and that we are passing the freight costs to the customer.
- Manage utilities spend to ensure utilities cost remain consistent relating to usage and follow up with operations on any anomalies.
- Perform margin analysis by part / product line / customer as required and make suggestions for improvement in all areas.
- Review and analyze quotes to understand and challenge planned margins.
- Evaluate make vs buy production decisions and buy vs lease capex decisions.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in accounting or finance. Preference to those with an accounting designation or comparable experience.
- 5 years of experience in accounting, preference may be given to those with manufacturing or cost accounting experience.
- ERP manufacturing software knowledge required.
- A professional and positive attitude and approach to work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office essential.
- Ability to prepare, review and maintain all accounting functions.
- Ability to plan, assign and evaluate job tasks.
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
- Proven ability to build strong working relationships both internal and external to the organization.
- Ability to problem-solve and make sound recommendations pertaining to organization effectiveness.
- Communicate effectively both verbal and written.
- Analytical thinking and ability to pay attention to detail.
