Job Overview
In this position you are responsible for the Manufacturing Engineering group within our Global Operations Engineering team at our new state-of-the-art device manufacturing facility in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead development of a detailed manufacturing excellence strategy for the site
- Establish a strong collaboration with Production, Supply Chain, Quality and Development leadership to deliver operational results and to ensure efficient, timely and sustainable resolution of complex technical issues in day-to-day production operation
- Is responsible for leading a local team of manufacturing experts, building a team of creative, industrious individuals who will thrive in an environment of advancing manufacturing strategies
- Responsible for the technical and professional development of the team and ensuring the requisite resources and skill sets are available and developed to meet current and future business needs.
- Oversight and leadership of activities of a technical/automated manufacturing nature involving the analysis and modification of manufacturing methods.
- Provides the necessary technical support and coordination of equipment and process design, development, build, installation, commissioning/validation and sustaining to world class O.E.E.
- Working with Manufacturing and Logistics Managers to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and CAPEX projects to support the growth of the business.
- Partnering with R&D on new product introductions with a view to launching advanced manufacturing processes & automation while meeting the needs & timelines for customer focus
- Ensure that automated manufacturing, continuous improvement and CAPEX programs are completed on time and on budget.
- Assume the role of technical & cultural mentor for various functions.
- Will monitor and control progress of work ensuring sound application of principles, delivery to strategic intent and the appropriate use of practices and tools.
- Develop a local support and competence network of partnership across the organisation and industry to enhance understanding of delivery of CI, Digitalization, Automation & Manufacturing Excellence.
- Advocate of Industry 4.0 and Future Factory Initiatives, bias towards ‘future-proofing’ the site by introducing automated processes and systems leveraging current and emerging technologies to keep pace with ever-changing business requirements
Skills and Qualification
- Degree in Engineering, Science or similar education/experience
- Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience in medical device development, engineering and/or manufacturing, with several years at a manufacturing site
- Minimum 5 years of management experience in a relevant position
- Solid understanding of relevant production processes and systems, i.e. injection molding, metal/spring forming, automated assembly and packaging
- Solid understanding and experience with regulations and procedures applicable to medical device development/manufacture
- Previous experience with development and manufacture of autoinjectors / drug delivery devices is preferred
- Digitalization and automation experience / exposure required. Sound capability to understand concepts and approaches in facilitating strong leadership expected.
- Process and/or equipment qualification and validation experience
- Experience in executing complex problem-solving techniques related to design/process/technical issues. Advanced knowledge of common problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies
- Must be highly organized and disciplined and be able to demonstrate their ability to meet deadlines. Demonstrated Initiative & applied knowledge of project management tools and methodology.
- Proven track record in leading and developing a team of highly skilled and specialized experts
- Passionate & committed self-starter with “can do” attitude, team player and taking responsibility to get the job done
- Able to work under pressure to achieve short-term targets without compromising long-term objectives
- Willingness to work from/relocate to Charleston, South Carolina is required.
- Willingness to initially spend an extended period in our facility in Taiwan for induction/training is a plus
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, influencing, verbal/written communication and presentation skills, with the proven ability to teach and coach others. Must be comfortable presenting at all levels of the organization.
