Job purpose
The Operations Manager directs and coordinates production operations. Ensures that objectives are achieved at the lowest cost, consistent with customer requirements and company policies. Understands the environmental aspects, impacts, objectives and targets of General Aluminum and how these factors affect day-to-day operations. Works with the Safety, Quality, Maintenance, Accounting and HR Managers to meet plant goals and objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
· Provide leadership and direction to the production management team.
· Assure a quality product is maintained; production schedules are established and met. Optimize /improve OEE.
· Champion corrective / preventive actions and foster continuous improvement.
· On a daily basis communicate the manufacturing issues and answer job related questions. Controls day-to-day production scheduling and inventory management to meet customer needs and maintain accurate inventory at optimum levels.
· Weekly meetings with HR to review manning and training requirements.
· On a monthly basis report manufacturing results with supportive details. (QOS and monthly narratives.)
· Review the plant operational expenses. Compare to plan and explain variances with corrective action plans.
· Hold monthly Plant meetings with the work-force. Establish formal and informal communications with employees to reduce/ handle complaints and achieve desired results. Aware of consequences to the customer, environment and the employee, if procedures are not followed.
· Assure all safety policies, company policies and procedures are implemented and followed in compliance with government regulations. Maintain the Quality and Environmental Management System certifications.
· Establish short and long term operating financial objectives and set priorities for the quality and manufacturing functions.
· Coordinate with the Director of Operations to assure company technical and strategic plans, goals and achievements are established, communicated and met.
· Supervises and communicates with employees regarding job performance, expectations, attendance, etc. and disciplines as appropriate. Responsible for annual evaluations for direct reports. Complete a salary plan, making recommendations for salary increases and promotions for all individuals reporting to this position.
· Maintain the plant equipment, building and grounds. Recommend improvements in the plant layout, process and equipment.
· Coordinate with the engineering department in the development and design of new products in relation to efficient manufacturing processes.
· All other duties as deemed necessary by General Manager and or Director of Operations .
Qualifications
· Required –
o 5-10 years in Manufacturing Plant Operations Management
o Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Production, Business, Supply Chain Management or Engineering preferred
o Certificate in Manufacturing, Production, or Inventory management preferred
o Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
· Required - Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws, polices, and rules. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by company. Must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Must be available and willing to work such overtime as is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
Working conditions and environment
Noise may exceed 85db must wear hearing protection. Exposure to extreme heat.
Normal equipment used
Hand tools, gauges/fixtures, measuring devices and computer. Safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and steel toed shoes are required.
