Materials Engineer plans for the most cost-effective utilization of materials. Applies knowledge of material science to recommend engineering and manufacturing changes to attain design objectives in the most economical manner possible. Being a Materials Engineer reviews blueprints and specifications to determine the appropriate materials needed to achieve successful completion of initiatives. May require a bachelor's degree in engineering. Additionally, Materials Engineer typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Responsibilities:
• Locates missing items and replenishes stock
• Maintains adequate amounts of sterile and unsterile supplies within the work ZONE, at all times (Includes medication rooms)
• Cleans and checks equipment on a routine basis
• Checks supplies for expiration dates and reprocesses and/or discards as indicated
Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED equivalency
• Must be well organized and knowledgeable in systems supporting material supply.
• Must attain 85% or more on math and reading comprehension tests
• Willingness to attend educational courses to increase knowledge in area of inventory control and budgeting
• Ability to deal with physical and emotional stress
• Must have valid N.Y.S. driver's license
• Experience in inventory control and materials handling preferred
• Must be computer literate.
