Materials Manager manages the raw material planning processes to ensure an organization operates efficiently. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Manager utilizes MRP system to manage material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Develops forecasts for raw material needs by considering purchases, production rates, and maintenance schedules. Additionally, Materials Manager coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control when adjustments are needed and troubleshoots complex issues as necessary. Maintains supplier relationships and may negotiate lead times. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. What You'll Be Doing Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing all aspects of materials management for moderately complex assignments. This work will be performed under minimal supervision. Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Extensive knowledge of construction safety requirements, with a commitment to a zero accidents environment. Ability to insure contractor’s activities are planned and executed with safety first. Familiarity with and utilizing department standards. Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a task. Technical contractual activities on one or more projects of various sizes. Promoting continued relationships with clients. Participating in field construction efforts, design phase services and all subcontracting as well as participating in all major technical, cost, scheduling and performance decisions. Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly. Providing on-site assistance during startup. Coordinating work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead. Consulting with design leaders to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project. Advising the senior engineer concerning design or scope changes, which have been identified. Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for input. Reviewing construction specifications. Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications. Ideal Background Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Licensing: No licensing is required for this position. Experience: This position requires 15 or more years of relevant industrial construction coordination and administration experience. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required: Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments. Knowledge and application of company business standards and good practices. A comprehensive understanding of the function of all engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes. Ability to manage client relationships in complex situations. Ability to relate easily to others in the business community such as customers, suppliers, contractors, government, professional and trade associations. Ability to handle stress with poise. Understanding of existing and potential customer needs and preferences. Ability to clearly communicate expectations and requirements to team members. Ability to set priorities. Excellent listening and communication skills, both verbal and written. Good presentation skills. Excellent organizational skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to perform work outdoors in hot or cold climates.
