Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. - Experienced in commercial vehicle operation, including with trailers (CDL is a plus, but not required).
- General knowledge of shipping, receiving, and material handling.
- Resourceful—able to solve problems without oversight.
- Extremely organized, with attention to accuracy and details.
- Familiar with managing vehicles and tools: knowledge of terminology, common tools, general maintenance practices.
- Able to manage 2-3 apprentices or direct reports.
- Experienced in forklift operation and safety.
- Goal-oriented, and self-directed.
- Efficient and productive in allocating and using available labor hours.
- Capable of lifting 75#.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage security system including cameras, and doors. Coordinate maintenance/repairs with EPS security.
- Manage KMI cell phone account with Verizon—including adding and suspending lines, setting up new devices, and working with rep on plan and rates.
- Manage two shop buildings of approx 18,000 SF, and related maintenance and oversight.
- Fleet management of approx. 20 light trucks and vans for maintenance: Plan, schedule, and oversee all maintenance and repairs (done by professional repair garage); perform and/or oversee in-house wash, wax, wipers, inspections of racks and bins.
- Oversee in-house vehicle inspection process for policy compliance.
- Receive deliveries: Safely unload, label, store, and document deliveries that come into the shop.
- Organize KMI shop materials and equipment in a logical and professional manner.
- Ensure neat, tidy and clean shop spaces.
- Oversee logistics for internal customers: work with general superintendent to schedule drivers and deliveries of materials and equipment in support of construction projects.
- Safely deliver materials and equipment to local jobsites—including backhoe and lifts; demonstrate safe material handling and tie down practices.
- Manage tool inventory: ensure and oversee policies and practices for tool sign-in and sign-out, as well as repairs, organization, and purchasing of new tools.
- Manage shop inventory stock: shop and order common materials and receive, store, and dispense them in organized fashion. Work with suppliers. Assist accounting by ensuring regular reporting of shop stock usage—including monitoring vendor reports and invoices.
- Plan and schedule facility projects and repairs; oversee in-house labor that assists.
- Coordinate, set up, and tear down of company events that take place at the KMI shop. This includes ordering food, drinks, tables, music, etc.
- Manage office janitorial services, including purchasing of necessary cleaning supplies.
- Purpose new and cost-saving tools, projects, and equipment.
