Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     APS Technology is searching for an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer.  Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering, the Senior Mechanical Designer will prepare conceptual design layouts of complex mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for use by others in the development and manufacturing of products for use or sale to client organizations. 

    Responsibilities include Incorporatng/processing engineering change notices (ECN's) as required and utilize knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, design standards, etc. to produce    conceptual design layouts based on input from engineering.  This position will also be responsible for generating documentation as required utilizing appropriate CAD system, participate in design reviews, write and distribute meeting minutes and may be asked to direct the work of, provide technical assistance to and check the work of  drafters and designers during the completion cycle of the documentation package.

    For this position, the right candidate will have experience in practicing effective communication with department and project personnel and provide input during the preparation of performance appraisals for drafters and/or designers, and must be able to follow written and verbal procedures.  Additionally, we are seeking a candidate who is proficient in geometric tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5 & ASME Y14.5M-1994, proficient in use of SolidWorks and applicable CAD system, has a thorough knowledge of MIL-STD-100, DOD 1000, and know the product line, materials, adhesives and coatings. Expert communication skills required to interface effectively with other departments/vendors is a must along with exceptional organizational skills which are required to administer Engineering Services portion of projects. 

    We are searching for a candidate who has a High School diploma or GED, holds a Certificate of completion from certified drafting program plus 2 years college level study preferably in engineering or mathematics.  Eight or more years design/drafting experience including at least 3 years of design experience developing engineering layouts, or equivalent combination of education and experience. SolidWorks proficiency is required for this position.

    Travel as required, both domestically and internationally, to APS and customer facilities to assist with product support and new product development/commercialization.
