Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Job Description or Purpose
The Mechanical Designer is to support the Engineering team and other departments at producing high quality, mission critical products, and systems for the United States Navy. The Designer’s job is to help manage technical information and communicate it to various departments. While this includes digital model/drawing management, it also includes Mechanical/Electrical design, concept generation, problem solving, BOM (Bill of Material) generation, internal process improvements, collaboration with other departments, and other responsibilities that contribute to designing and producing high quality products. The Designer will also help CEPEDA fully transition and into utilizing and integrating digital data to its fullest extent within the CEPEDA manufacturing environment. This may include working with CAM software or other machine software to optimizing file transfer capabilities, build tool libraries, transfer programming, etc.
The Designer will work on an engineering team consisting of professional engineers, project managers, project engineers, engineering management, co-op engineers, and other designers. The Designer role has potential to grow into a team leadership role within our group of Designers. This would allow them to develop and structure the team, with Engineering Management, to be best utilized to support the goals of CEPEDA.
