Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.   • Actalent Engineering is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Drafter/Designer opening with a metals manufacturer that is located in Reading, PA. This person will be responsible for editing existing mechanical components to customer specifications using SolidWorks and preparing parts in the company's ERP system for production.

    Below is a summary of responsibilities for this position:

    • Conducts research, supports engineering projects.
    • Interprets instructions, specifications, and other pertinent information and communicates information to team members
    • Utilizes SolidWorks to edit and detail existing mechanical parts from company's parts library.
    • Create parts numbers and add parts to the ERP system
    • Create job orders
    • Prepare drawings for production
    • Conducts complex layout drafting, formulating designs and drawings for various projects.
    • Coordinates resources among owners, contractors and other parties.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Below is a summary of requirements for qualified candidates:

    • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design or a related discipline
    • Proficiency and previous experience using an ERP system
    • Proficiency using SolidWorks

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
