    About the Role:

    As the brand lead for Reader’s Digest and its sister site, The Healthy, the Content Director is a transformative digital editorial leader responsible for overseeing the editors and writers who plan, craft and optimize written content for RD.com and TheHealthy.com. Reporting to the TMB’s Chief Content Officer/Digital and collaborating with team leaders across the organization, you serve as a driving force in growing Reader’s Digest and The Healthy into a digital category leaders, leveraging performance data, strong editorial instincts, and SEO knowledge to produce engaging, on-brand new and refreshed evergreen content to meet goals and budgets. You are organized and a clear and direct communicator who is always focused on the brand’s top priorities for its high-quality content. 

    About You:  

    A digital-first leader with exceptional SEO and editorial skills, you have an inspirational management style that builds confidence in your team and empowers them to work swiftly, smartly and collaboratively. You have experience developing SEO-driven content production workflows designed to scale and know how to prioritize resources and team time so that work is completed efficiently. You have experience managing a high-performing team and are willing to get hands-on to ensure processes run smoothly and continually improve. You love to dig into data to ensure that what we are creating delivers for the audience and helps us meet our key revenue, engagement and traffic revenue targets.

    Highly collaborative, you foster strong working relationships within and across teams—making all who participate in your brands feel like valued contributors to success. You are adaptable and willing to take calculated risks and are as comfortable driving success as you are pulling the plug on efforts that do not deliver expected results. As a steward of the company’s resources, you recognize that every penny spent on content must contribute value to the business.

    Your Day-to-Day:  

    • You manage a team of content creators focused on driving performance and revenue across multiple platforms, which focus on traffic from search
    • You oversee content planning, workflow and execution, ensuring a data-driven approach to identifying the pieces we need, best practices for content refreshing and effective distribution of content, as well as the freelance budget
    • You act as an SEO resource for your team, advising on best practices and escalating advanced queries to SEO partners as needed
    • You are the brand’s champion and ensure that all content adheres to the brand's voice, style, and guidelines while optimizing storytelling for SEO and other platform-specific best practices
    • You keep abreast of industry trends and competitors and use this insight to propose content improvement projects or shifts in strategy
    • You are an editorial stakeholder and representative for website-related technological and design developments
    • You are an active participant on initiatives with various teams, including search, social, affiliate, print, editorial production and development, balancing the interests of your brand with those of the wider organization
    • You represent the brand with the marketing, advertising and consumer marketing teams and support team efforts
    • You are a brand leader who works seamlessly with other leaders across TMB to ensure continued business growth, mentor junior staff and actively contribute to our dynamic company and creative culture
    • You direct brand efforts to grow engagement with our vibrant special interest group, Reader’s Digest Book Club

    You Have:  

    • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or communications
    • 7 years of experience in a digital-first content leadership role, with a lead-by-example mindset and successful track record managing high-performance teams and scaling content operations
    • Deep proficiency in core SEO concepts and writing for the web best practices
    • Experience in the general information or lifestyle space; otherwise, a passion for related content and ability to demonstrate strategic content ideation
    • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive relationships with SEO, design, print, development and production team members to deliver creative products that drive successful business results
    • Strong collaborative skills and eagerness to partner with business unit leaders to enhance brand opportunities
    • A network of freelance writers, creators, makers and other creative talent in the lifestyle space to tap for assignments
    • An organized, thorough and deadline-oriented approach to working, with an ability to recognize when a content product or experience is ready to move forward
    • A “we” not “me” leadership style that encourages the open sharing of ideas, strategies and successes
    • Experience with content production tools such AirTable, Adobe Premiere, Frame.io, and InCopy, as well as content management systems such as Wordpress
    • Expertise in analytics reporting tools such as Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Google Trends, Looker and CrowdTangle
    • Experience using ChatGPT, Writesonic, Adobe Firefly and other artificial intelligence tools to thoughtfully plan and scale content creation preferred; a willingness to experiment with AI to achieve business growth goals
