Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical records. Being a Medical Assistant prepares treatment rooms for the examination of patients. May draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Additionally, Medical Assistant may perform administrative duties such as ordering supplies, answering the phone, and scheduling appointments. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RCA) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Medical Assistant works under moderate supervision. Responsibilities:
- Act as main telephone triage clinical operator, following practice protocols for patient calls, refills, and results communication. Monday - Friday 0900 - 530 pm.
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures
- Cross Train to administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers
- Cross Train to perform basic laboratory tests and collect specimens for testing
- Record patient medical history, vital signs, and other relevant information
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean and stocked with necessary supplies
- Provide patient education on medications, procedures, and general health topics
- Schedule patient appointments and manage medical records
- Assist with medical administrative support tasks as needed
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a medical assistant training program or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Proficient in performing vital signs measurements and basic laboratory tests
- Experience with medical administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing records
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide quality patient service and care
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems is a plus
