POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary function of the clerical assistant is to provide support to facilitate and assure proper billing and collections of Accounts Receivable. Works in concert with Medical Billing Team for the common purpose of providing outstanding customer service and maximum reimbursement to our clients whereby maximizing overall satisfaction. Assures that team tasks are performed timely and accurately to allow for smooth operations and minimizing claim denials and optimizing client revenue and overall satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Cross trained in order to provide transparency of production demands during team member vacations and absences.
· According to client specific guidelines, prepares deposits received by lockbox and downloads electronic EOBS to verify deposit totals researching and correcting discrepancies as necessary.
· Scans charges and deposits to the Data Processing department assuring that all records were completely sent. Verifies that all records were received and accounted for assuring consistent processing of accurate data.
· Processes credit card payments received through correspondence or via patient phone call utilizing internal credit card processing system.
· Prepares CMS-1500 claims for submission within 24 hour turnaround to assure timely and accurate reimbursement from all insurance carriers and government agencies.
· Downloads demographic information from various clients, including hospitals via email secure website or hospital terminal in order to transfer data into the billing system format (Healthpac). Edits downloaded information and completes all aspects of required fields to assure the registration and creation of accurate patient accounts on the Healthpac billing system.
· Researches and updates incorrect addresses and returned mail in an effort to assure claims and correspondence are sent timely and correctly to the appropriate recipient.
· Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirement : High School Diploma.
Minimum Experience : 1-2 years of clerical experience within a medical or billing office environment is preferred or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
