Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Bilingual front office person needed to interpret between English-speaking healthcare providers and limited-English proficient, Spanish speaking patients and their family members in a manner that promotes confidentiality. Duties will also include answering telephones, scheduling, checking-in patients, filing and authorizing insurance benefits. The successful candidate will be fluent in both oral and written English and Spanish. Previous experience in the medical field is helpful, but not necessary for the right candidate.
