Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Please note -this is NOT a Full-Time job position. This position is a Vendor 1099 position where assignments are accepted and rejected at one's discretion. Most jobs offered will lie within 6AM-5PM during Monday-Friday. There is no set schedule, appointments will be disbursed as they come in to our agency.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Simultaneous interpretation for Spanish and English speaking clients in primarily a medical setting, however additional settings may arise. Interpretation may be needed for physical therapy, doctor appointments, imaging, dispositions, hearings, etc.
Interpreter must have reliable transportation and be punctual! One must be in the office prior to the appointment time to ensure patients and staff members are not waiting.
Please note - consulting with patients regarding their case, treatments, etc is not permitted. Please be prepared to interpret the exact dialogue between a client and staff member.
Ensure the complete understanding of medical information between doctors, nurses, medical staff, and patients.
Assist clients with paperwork, as needed.
Assist client in setting up follow up appointment with the facility.
Pay Rate:
$17.50/hr, with a 1 hour minimum
$0.20/miles, one way
