Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Position Overview: The Interpreter provides interpretation and translation services for program staff by communicating effectively from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. Based in Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Providence, the Interpreter works with families enrolled in the Early Intervention program. The successful incumbent will be a positive team member, have a keen sensitivity to family dynamics, all with a professional mindset.

    Qualifications:
    • High School graduate required; associates degree or interpreter certification preferred.
    • Some experience with providing interpreting and/or translation services required.
    • Basic office administration skills, including computer and typing skills are also required.
    • Must have a pleasant telephone manner, as well as excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with staff, clients, visitors and Board members and the ability to recognize and respect the need for confidentiality.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours.
    • Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
    • Must be able to translate written documents.
    • Proven ability to interact with members of the community representing diverse backgrounds and interests is required.
