Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Duties:
- Provide accurate and efficient interpretation services
- Interpret spoken language in real-time during meetings, conferences, interviews, and other events, and on the phone or video meetings.
- Ensure cultural sensitivity and accuracy in all interpretations
- Collaborate with clients to understand their specific needs and requirements
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of ethics
Skills:
- Strong linguistic skills with fluency in English and foreign language
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in interpreting spoken language in real-time
- Knowledge of cultural nuances and sensitivity when working with diverse populations
- Familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- PA Criminal history report, FBI Criminal History Report and PA Child abuse clearance is required but not difficult to get.
-Court or Medical certification is a plus but not required.
