SCOPE: This is a nonexempt position reporting to the Andrology Managers, Laboratory Director, and Executive Director. This position works under direct and indirect supervision in performing assigned duties and responsibilities according to the specifications outlined in the RMA LI IVF Embryology, Andrology and Endocrine Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
Primary duties will include (but not be limited to):
Andrology
Conducts full range of andrology procedures including, but not limited to
-
Understand Andrology and Endocrine Laboratory Standard Operating Procedure Manuals.

Perform semen analysis, cryopreservation, and sperm preparation for intra uterine insemination for IUI.
-
Preparation of solutions and aliquots for sperm separation media
-
Makes semen smears, fixes and stains slides for microscopic examination.
-
Participates in the coordination and receiving of donor sperm shipments.
Endocrine
Conducts full range of endocrine procedures including, but not limited to
-
Conducts full range of hormone assays test performed on the Blood analyzer machine in the reproductive endocrine laboratory.

Conducts daily quality control testing of all assays performed on the Blood analyzer.

Performs routine daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly maintenance of the Blood machine.
-
Performs routine calibration and adjustment procedures on assays on the Blood machine.
-
Identifies errors in patient results, assays, documentation and can troubleshoot and notify the laboratory supervisor as needed.

Participate in proficiency testing as required.
Data Assistant
Responsible for accurate and efficient completion of correctly entering data from patient’s paper chart into our EMR system regarding patients’ procedures and individual inventory as required, but not be limited to
-
Understand the different embryology procedures when entering in data into the EMR including but not limited to; retrievals were both couple gametes are used, donor gametes, gestational carriers, donor embryo (DEMB), fresh and frozen oocytes, oocyte cryopreservation and FETs.

Enter Fertilization (FERT) checks each morning which takes place inside the laboratory and results are emailed to the medical team.

Check in and/or out sperm from outside facilities and donor programs which entails correctly updating patient’s specimen information in EMR system.

Monitor patients with pending biopsy results and correctly enter results into patients’ chart when received.

Learn and assist Embryologist in entering SART data for patient’s pregnancy statistics.
-
Verify as a witness for embryologist for patients’ embryos that are being thawed for a FET or transfer in/out to other facilities.
-
Assist embryologist in checking/filling all liquid nitrogen tanks in the cryopreservation room.
-
Calculate laboratory pregnancies with monthly/yearly data and statistics
-
Conduct pivot tables for andrology procedures
Additional General Laboratory Functions/Admin Duties (as required)
-
Performs comprehensive cross referencing of patient identification labels, requisitions, and specimen containers.

Correctly navigates the laboratory information system that communicates between the Blood and the medical record system.
-
Promptly notifies the clinical team of abnormal test results.
-
Responsible for the accurate and efficient completion of all accompanying documentation and reconciliation for procedures performed in the laboratory.

Proficient in data entry and navigation with the electronic medical record system.
-
Completes QA and QC reports on procedures and cryopreserved inventory as needed or requested.
-
Performs and documents daily Q.C. of all andrology and reproductive endocrine lab equipment.

Aids in the general up-keep of the laboratories (check for inventory, stocking shelves, end of day organization.

Performs and prepares weekly Sheets for patients, posting patient blood work, scan, fax email, file, print documentation for specific procedures throughout the day

Performs quality audits and daily cross checks of specimen labels for accuracy.

Uses universal precautions in handling of patient specimens.

Attendance and participation at laboratory meeting
-
Participates actively in all certification and proficiency testing processes as required by the State of New York, CLIA and C.A.P.

Maintains patient confidentiality and always complies with HIPPA guidelines.
Qualifications
- BS degree in biological sciences is required (Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Cytogenetic Technology, or a related science field).

Significant hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are required.
-
Scheduling flexibility, including weekend and holiday rotation commitment is essential.

Strong attention to detail and extreme precision when working in the lab and while transcribing data into the EMR

Knowledgeable of medical settings and a sensitivity to working in such an environment.

Must be professional and personable when meeting and interacting with patients.

Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
