Medical Librarian (MLS) provides guidance and assistance to users researching medical information using database searches, inter-library loans, and other resources. Ensures the cataloging and circulation of materials are performed efficiently and correctly according to policies and standards. Being a Medical Librarian (MLS) creates training materials and delivers library instruction and education programs for physicians and other staff. Leads or contributes ideas for library strategic planning, quality initiatives, and the development of digital media and educational resources. Additionally, Medical Librarian (MLS) maintains current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Medical Librarian (MLS) occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     About the Role :

    HHMI's Janelia Research Campus Information Services serves the needs of researchers at Janelia in accessing and disseminating data and information, and providing resources, guidance, and support for literature research.

    The Librarian provides reference and digital information services to support the organization's research and operational needs.

    They will identify and advocate for growth opportunities for Janelia information and data management services. They will provide enthusiastic customer-focused services to further HHMI's mission and overall goals.

    The incumbent will also engage with the organization's evolving open science initiatives and support researchers in disseminating research results.

    This is a part-time role expected to work approximately 20 hours per week.

    What You'll Do :

    Acquire, process, distribute, circulate, and maintain the libraries' collection electronically and for a small lending library.

    Maintain Janelia's electronic journal and reference collections.

    Maintain documentation on procedures and processes for providing resources and services.

    Fulfill material requests through interlibrary loan systems and direct purchases.

    Measure the use of collections and dissemination platforms and report expenses and usage statistics.

    Manage institutional EBSCO, Web of Science, and other institutional platforms.

    Track, document, and report Janelia publications weekly.

    Maintain internal SharePoint site with guidance for stakeholders.

    Maintain budget, use electronic accounting and payment system, and negotiate journal, media, and software subscriptions in conjunction with the Director, Innovations and External Relations.

    Instruct users on the use of digital resources and services in individual and group settings. This may include one-on-one demos, on-boarding sessions, or workshops.

    What You Bring :

    Master's degree in library / information science or a STEM discipline preferred.

    At least two years of progressive experience in a business, law, technical, scientific research, or special library or research environment.

    Prior experience with science-related resources is preferred.

    Experience conducting online research using free and fee-based database services, government, academic, and open-source sponsored websites, blogs, and wikis.

    Excellent interpersonal, team-oriented skills with ability to work enthusiastically with scientific researchers and staff.

    Ability to flexibly adapt to rapid technological changes.

    Proficient in use of various MS Office, web applications, search engines and databases (such as : PubMed, Web of Science, and EBSCO hosted databases.)

    Familiarity with EndNote, Overdrive / Libby, SharePoint, Python, and / or Drupal is beneficial.

    Familiarity with the scholarly publication landscape, including preprint servers, generalist repositories, domain repositories, and persistent identifiers, is desired.

    $36,567.65 (minimum) - $45,574.56 (midpoint) - $59,422.43 (maximum)

    Please note : these salaries are pro-rated for part-time, 20 hours per week.

    HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers.

    Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
