Medical Secretary - Home Care provides secretarial support to clinical staff in a home care environment. Performs various secretarial and clerical duties, such as typing reports and correspondence, transcribing written notes, maintaining records and files, answering phones, and arranging clinician schedules. Being a Medical Secretary - Home Care may be responsible for entering clinician charges into medical billing system. Requires knowledge of medical terms and vocabulary. Additionally, Medical Secretary - Home Care requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Secretary - Home Care possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. ESSENTIAL TASKS:
1) Assist the Client with the following Personal Care Routines:
a) Mouth care, denture care
b) Grooming (shampoo, dry and comb hair, shave, ordinary care of nails)
c) Bathing (bed bath, tub bath, shower)
d) Elimination (bedpan, commode, toilet)
e) Transferring (bed to chair, a bed to wheelchair)
f) Meals-prepare, serve, assist with feeding as needed) a well-balanced diet
g) Dressing and undressing activities
h) Self-administered medications (remind the client to take medications)
i) Ambulation and movement (assist to avoid falls, safety)
2) Perform household tasks essential to the client's needs as they relate directly to the client's comfort and well-being:
a) Light housekeeping
b) Make beds, change linens
c) Dust and vacuum the client's room
d) Tidy kitchen, bathroom
e) Wash dishes after meals
f) List needed cleaning supplies for the home (paper goods, also)
g) Wash client's laundry
h) Shopping, opening mail, banking, and errands if no other management is possible.
3) Perform other health-related tasks which may be delegated by a physician, an R.N., or other healthcare professionals.
4) Advise the Agency staff of any incidents in the home and/or changes in the client's status.
5) Other reasonable, acceptable tasks which may be requested by a client who is self-directing, or the client's family. These tasks may include observation of the client, recording and reporting facts about the client's behavior, and carrying out appropriate procedures and techniques, as appropriate.
6) Ensures that the rights of the client are maintained.
7) Reports to work and works as scheduled and assigned by the client and field supervisor.
8) Reports to the Coordinator at the office in advance of changes to the schedule or absence from work.
9) Attends staff conferences and in-service meetings as scheduled.
10) Represents the Agency in a loyal manner and dresses in appropriate clothing.
11) Completes service delivery record (timesheet) on the day of each visit and turns in bi-weekly time sheet as soon as possible after the last day worked during the pay period
12) consistently and accurately record time worked for each client’s scheduled hours.
13) Other duties as assigned.
