Approves the final selection of venues, catering, technology, and other event support services. Reviews and approves contracts and has overall responsibility for ensuring events stay within budget.     Description

    Reporting to the Director of Advancement Services, the Associate Director or Director of Stewardship is responsible for all stewardship activities, programs, and initiatives directed at the College’s donors and top prospects. The Associate Director or Director should utilize best practices and take a proactive approach to assess the College’s current stewardship processes, then develop, plan, and implement new stewardship strategies to recognize current donors and cultivate major gift prospects to support the College in meeting its goals.

    The Associate Director or Director is responsible for designing, implementing and integrating a comprehensive stewardship program that promotes engagement and connection with donors and top prospects. The Associate Director or Director will support the communication of both the value and impact of each donor's investment toward the College in meaningful ways.

    Principal duties and responsibilities will include

    • Coordinating, developing, and managing the tracking processes regarding recognition, acknowledgment, on-going communications, and continued cultivation of current and past donors to increase the likelihood of continued contributions and enhance their relationship with the College.
    • Work with advancement staff to prioritize and coordinate sharing mechanisms with donors and prospects.
    • Develop and implement stewardship strategies using creative multi-channel communications; stewarding annual donors and building the donor pipeline; coordinating with gift officers to set stewardship strategies for major donors and top prospects; analyze and record data to guide and track stewardship efforts.
    • Assist in organizing and managing financial and impact information for all endowed and restricted funds. Partner with the appropriate development staff and campus partners on the distribution of funds, accurate reporting, and current/new fund agreements to ensure the appropriate requirements and timely reporting guidelines are met and stewarded appropriately.
    • Organize and manage financial and impact information for all endowed and restricted funds. Responsible for accurate and meaningful acknowledgement of gifts and funds along with timely utilization and compliance. Ensure compliant, accurate, transparent communication and reporting to donors in a timely manner.
    • Oversee an integrated donor relation and systematic program that encompasses coordinating special donor recognition events/programs, building or other naming dedications targeted at cultivating/stewarding leadership donors. Work with all parties involved (donor families, marketing staff, catering, etc.).
    • Guide scholarship awards through Financial Aid to ensure their awarding on a timely basis. This includes managing communication between scholarship recipients and donors.
    • Develop, analyze, and maintain data for the college’s recognition societies and various special projects in support of specific College objectives.Create, edit, maintain, and assess policies and procedures for comprehensive donor relations and the stewardship program. Promote and follow ethical guidelines.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
    This is a multi-level posting.

    • Bachelor's degree or 2 years minimum experience in higher education or field of Advancement required for an Associate Director of Stewardship.
    • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years minimum experience in field of Advancement required for a Director of Stewardship.
    • Ability to read, write, and develop ideas to effectively plan, organize, and implement the programs at a level normally acquired by a bachelor’s degree and experience in the field of Advancement.
    • Must have a wide knowledge of Simpson College, including its history, present direction, and future goals as well as an appreciation of and awareness of the role of private liberal arts colleges.
    • Demonstrated philanthropic values and a commitment to service, superior written and oral communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, volunteers, donors, and prospective donors.
    • Knowledge of database management.
    • Enthusiasm for engagement on campus and local community events.
    • Interpersonal skills requiring above-ordinary courtesy, persuasiveness, and tact are necessary to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
    • Organizational skills and detail-oriented characteristics to be able to work on several projects simultaneously and accomplish them all in a timely and professionally acceptable manner.
    • Need to be able to concentrate and pay attention to detail in 100% of duties.
    • Computer proficiency, particularly in MS Office suite; ability to quickly learn and assimilate new systems and information.
    • Must be a self-starter with little direct or daily supervision and the ability to use discretion in working with sensitive and confidential data.
