    SUPERVISOR: Director of Development

    SUMMARY: The Membership Manager is responsible for all aspects of the membership program including acquisition of new members among visitors and through community outreach, retention, budget, strategy, account servicing and maintenance of the membership database. The Membership Manager will coordinate with other Museum personnel on communicating the value of membership to members and the public, as well as planning and executing member events.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    • Develop and execute a proactive membership program that includes ongoing inside and outside sales efforts to attract, retain and upgrade members. Create annual goals and actions steps to maximize the number of members and membership revenue, in coordination with supervisor. Monitor and report progress quarterly.
    • Maintain member database, capturing and tracking information pertaining to members and prospective members. Utilize this information to offer outstanding benefits to retain and upgrade existing members, acquire new members, and identify development prospects.
    • Develop and execute a program of regular member communications, including print, e-mail and social media.
    • Organize and coordinate special events for members including exhibition opening receptions, travel opportunities, special member events at annual festivals and other opportunities.
    • Meet and greet members and prospective members of the Museum at community or Museum events, expressing appreciation and informing them about the benefits of membership.
    • Work collaboratively with other departments to integrate programs and maximize value to members.
    • Work collaboratively with the Director of Development on fundraising appeals and events, including Annual Appeal, Gala, upper level member events, and major gift solicitations.
    • Create member surveys, compiling results and supplying this information to the management team so that it may be used to improve the programs of the Museum.
    • Develop a coordinated program of written member communications such as hand written thank you notes, scheduled renewal notices, and upgrade appeals designed to secure renewals and membership upgrades.
    • Serve as the main point of contact for the guilds within the membership.
    • Serve as the editor of the quarterly member newsletter and membership portion of the bi-monthly e-blast.
    • Ensure all acknowledgments comply with IRS regulations and guidelines.

    · Submit an annual department budget. Monitor expenses and revenue throughout the year and make adjustments as needed.

    · Understand the mission and goals of the Museum, and project a warm and friendly attitude toward guests and fellow staff.

    · Be responsible for ensuring high standards of professionalism in all areas of responsibility.

    · Maintain a working knowledge of pertinent museum industry policies, laws, and accepted practices through involvement in industry trade groups and ongoing professional development programs.

    • Perform other duties, tasks and projects as requested by supervisor.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree preferably in business, marketing, or related field.
    • 3 years’ experience at a non-profit membership organization in a membership or development role preferably in a leadership or supervisory position.
    • Ability to multi-task, effectively set priorities, problem-solve, gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports with minimal supervision.
    • Excel in communication both orally and in writing.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
    • Experience working with donor management or CRM software with a preference for Altru or other Blackbaud product.
    • Ability to quickly learn software programs used within the organization.
    • Graphic design knowledge and event planning experience a plus.
    • Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods. Must be able to reach, stoop, and lift up to 25lbs. Position requires manual dexterity, full color spectrum vision, ability to hear and speak.

    OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in planning and directing a goal-driven, results-oriented program of work, possess excellent managerial skills and demonstrate the ability to motivate and create enthusiasm among a team. This position also requires the ability to handle and balance many responsibilities in a calm and efficient manner and a high level of self-direction, self-motivation, and the ability to set priorities. A high level of creativity and energy, plus strong mathematical skills, a good understanding of statistics, accounting and budgeting procedures, and strong analytical skills for turning data into actionable information is also preferred.

    Valid Driver’s License

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Office environment, non-standard hours, generally within 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, some extended hours and weekends are required. Overnight travel out-of-state may be required occasionally. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $40,000.00 - $49,000.00 per year
