The Membership Specialist schedules classes and coordinates testing for members. Responsible for the daily activities of the certification or credentialing programs of an association or membership organization. Being a Membership Specialist may interface with outside testing organizations. Ensures that all activities and requirements regarding an organization's certification programs are met. In addition, Membership Specialist may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Member-Consumer Relationships: Builds and maintains positive member-consumer relationships promoting the Cooperative’s plans, procedures, and services as well as promoting a positive image for the organization and its goals and objectives.
External Relationships: Builds and maintains positive external relationships with the general public and other organizations which contribute to the overall success of the organization and reflects positively on the organization and its goals and objectives.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
To coordinate and communicate the cooperative mission, programs, services, policies, and news to the membership, general public, media and CEMC employees. To prepare, edit and publish cooperative publications, maintain internal and external communication channels, update cooperative website, manage digital media and develop, implement, and evaluate advertising campaigns. Serve as the media contact for general inquiries, news releases, emergency/outage situations, and news conferences.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or business administration preferred; previous utility experience and/or educational background may be considered in replacement of desired degree
Job Training, Experience, and Knowledge: Previous experience in communications related role, social media, digital media or website management preferred. Previous experience within the electric industry reporting on major issues including rates, programs and services and storm response preferred. Previous experience with electric utilities or educational background can be substituted for previous communications experience. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Strong attention to detail. Must have the skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public, members, fellow employees, etc. Must have skills in the areas of organizing, planning, and directing, and be able to understand Cooperative policies and procedures. Knowledge in the use of Windows, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, Illustrator, Canva, Microsoft Word, and Power Point preferred. Must have knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Should possess working knowledge of principles and processes for providing member/customer and personal services. This includes member/customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of member/customer satisfaction.
A combination of educational equivalents, and/or directly related prior work experience and/or training with demonstrated proficiency may be substituted for any or all of the educational requirements.
Abilities and Skills: Must be able to carry out a variety of activities which require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be capable of multi-tasking and maintaining productivity and efficiency in executing duties and assignments. Must be able to make positive decisions in a timely manner and exercise sound judgment. Must be able to work with very little supervision and be proactive in responsibilities. Possess superior ability to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing and prioritizing with attention to detail.
Equipment and Machinery Operated: Position utilizes computers, calculators, telephone and radio communications equipment and other standard office equipment in the completion of assigned duties. Operates automobile if specifically assigned.
General physical activity and demands: These activities may be performed from standing or seated position depending on the tasks being accomplished. Position requires frequent standing, walking, stooping, reaching and grasping. Physical dexterity and efficient coordination are required for the operation of machinery and standard communications equipment involved with the position. The position does not customarily require lifting weights in excess of approximately 25 lbs. The duties of the position are performed in an office environment.
Driver’s License requirement: Must maintain a valid N.C. Driver’s License of the type specified by the Cooperative if necessary to carry out the duties assigned to the position.
Overtime Status: This position is not subject to the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as amended.
