The Membership Specialist schedules classes and coordinates testing for members. Responsible for the daily activities of the certification or credentialing programs of an association or membership organization. Being a Membership Specialist may interface with outside testing organizations. Ensures that all activities and requirements regarding an organization's certification programs are met. In addition, Membership Specialist may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Being a Membership Specialist gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Job Summary: Responsible for placing animals in adoptive homes via responsible match-making, counseling and by providing exceptional customer service to prospective adopters.
Summary of Essential Responsibilities:
• Assist potential adopters in the selection of animals for adoption to ensure the right fit for the family and the pet.
• Create a welcoming, fun and inviting experience for all patrons of the SPCA of Texas.
• In conjunction with the volunteer department, work with the team of volunteers to care for animals, facilitate adoptions and provide enhanced customer service.
• Remain up to date on available animals’ information, personalities and medical issues in order to help pets find the perfect home.
• Represent the SPCA of Texas by providing excellent customer service and being inclusive to all of the public.
Summary of Essential Job Tasks:
• Greet potential adopters and ascertain their wishes for a new pet and help match make the new family with a pet that fits into their lives.
• Ensure all animals being adopted are up-to-date on vaccinations, preventions and that any current medications are filled and provided to the adopter.
• Accurately enter adoption information into the software system at time of adoption.
• Advise new owners of pet examinations, adoption benefits, and post adoption behavior issues.
• Assist with animal care duties as needed.
• Participate in all adoption activities including offsite adoptions occasionally.
• Work collaboratively with all departments and staff and volunteers.
• Merchandise and sell retail items to adopters in order to increase revenues to fund lifesaving programs.
• Protect the confidential information on customers and donors.
• Provide information to the public about SPCA of Texas programs and promote good animal care and responsible pet ownership.
• Actively engage with volunteers in such a way that provides support for our volunteers and staff and proactively improves our volunteer program.
• Be an ambassador for the SPCA of Texas, sharing the work and mission with your friends and family and be knowledgeable of the various ways to support our work.
Abilities Required:
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 30 pounds.
• Strong customer service orientation and experience.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities and good time management skills.
• The ability to work effectively under stressful conditions. Ability to rapidly and accurately process information.
Applicant Information:
• The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Shift times may vary and include weekend hours.
• Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.
• Applicant will be exposed to animals, some of which may be fearful and/or exhibit behavioral issues.
• Applicant must be dedicated to providing every animal exceptional care and a loving home.
