Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with the patient's family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Position Overview: 

    A paraprofessional that coordinates the treatment of behavioral health conditions (mental health & substance use) and physical health conditions; by providing comprehensive care management; care coordination; transitional care; health promotion to improve overall wellness and manage chronic health conditions; and monitoring health indicators.

    Job Duties: 

    1. Ensures client care is coordinated between client and all healthcare providers; continuous collaboration with local agencies to establish continuity of care for the clients
    2. Ensures client’s access to needed services during transitions from different levels of care, expedites and facilitates client understanding of health needs
    3. Must manage a client caseload with 96 billable hours/month to support wellness recovery through direct service care
    4. Provides education, reinforcement, and frequent communication with clients about their physical and behavioral health status
    5. Administers screening tools, proactive identification and active intervention to assist with provider evaluation of client’s current status and ongoing care needs
    6. Available during primary health, psychiatric, addiction appointments as needed for consultation and coordination efforts
    7. Assists with both internal and external warm hand-offs and referrals
    8. Enters benchmark data specific information into electronic health record and other databases
    9. Responsible for applying consistent criteria for management and coordination of client care plan, strategies and treatment plan goals that have been identified by client and individual care needs
    10. Communicates effectively with clients and treatment team to include both oral and written communication
    11. Provides encouragement and support to clients to assist them in solving difficulties they have managing and improving their health
    12. Develops strategies to remove barriers, allowing clients to achieve optimal health status
    13. Tracking and reporting client outcomes based on various measurements and screening tools 
    14. Completes documentation as required and appropriately maintains all required paperwork in accordance with Many Rivers policies
    15. Communicates effectively with supervisors, therapists, medical providers, and other team members to provide quality continuity of care for the clients
    16. Regular attendance is required
    17. Must have a Montana valid driver’s license, personal vehicle and current vehicle insurance, travel required and may transport clients
    18. Participates in in-service trainings & attends required meetings as directed by immediate Supervisor or Director
    19. Performs other duties as assigned by leadership
    20. Bargaining unit position must participate in the Union Pension Fund.

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    1. Must have a bachelor’s degree in human serviced field or individuals with other educational backgrounds who, as providers, consumers, or advocates of mental health services have developed the necessary knowledge and skills or graduation from high school or GED and a combination of relevant experience and/or education equaling at least four years. 
    2. Familiar with medical, mental health, addictions diagnosis and medications, preferred.  
    3. Must have a valid MT Driver’s License, vehicle insurance, and vehicle. 
    4. Transportation of clients required.

    All Positions at Many Rivers Whole Health must pass Background Checks and Motor Vehicle Record Check as well as a background check with DPHHS. Will be required to take Sexual Abuse Training.
