Mental Health Technician observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patents and staff. Being a Mental Health Technician attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings. Records information about patients including vital signs, weight, and demeanor. Additionally, Mental Health Technician may communicate with patients family as needed. Typically requires an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a registered nurse (rn) or other supervisor. The Mental Health Technician works under moderate supervision. Duties for Behavioral Health Technician Include:
Maintains patient safety at all times.
Orient patients to program and phases of treatment.
Prepare and deliver lectures and in-services as requested within the scope of knowledge and training.
Witness search process w/Nurse
Conduct rounds as ordered/assigned
Orient to unit (room, meals, med pass, programming, etc.)
Maintain security of Key Cards
Provide locker access at designated times
Supervise snacks
Escort patients to smoke breaks as designated (exceptions will need to be supervised)
Escort to meals
Monitor med pass line
Gathering patients for appointments
AMA blocking (chart)
Notify oversight of any issues or AMA
Gathering patients for transfers (ensure luggage is packed)
Obtain UDS as needed
Complete CSSR-S as needed
Stock lounge as assigned
Monitor supply quantity
De-escalation
Upon discharging/AMA return locker items and valuables
Chart by exception (critical events)
Vitals as ordered
