    Position Summary

    A Water Meter Technician works in the field removing, installing, and programming small “Smart” meters for residential utility customers; opening and closing work orders in a work order management system (WOMS); resetting and replacing meter boxes and lids; replacing ancillary fittings. Employees in this class must follow all safety procedures and use appropriate person protection equipment and other safety devices. Must have a positive attitude and the willingness to learn. We will train.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Replace or install small water meters
    • Replace or install registers, modules radios, transmitters, and other water meter endpoints
    • Read and record customer water meters
    • Turn water service on and off at the customer’s residence or business.
    • Replace, clean, install, reset water meter boxes and lids.
    • Perform water leak investigations
    • Locate, repair, and advise utilities of water leaks.
    • Perform inspections, cleaning, and basic service of assigned vehicles and equipment.
    • Install fitting and make connections, modify, and retrofit service line.
    • Dig and backfill holes, repair landscape, which may include cutting and replacing concrete or asphalt.
    • Employee is required to drive a vehicle from residence to residence.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

    Employee must possess a valid driver’s license, and the ability to:

    • Work independently under limited supervision.
    • Use initiative, discretion, and judgement within the Company’s established procedures, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
    • Define problems, develop alternative solutions, and draw a valid resolution.
    • Use hand-held devices (iPhones) to program water meter endpoints, and to open and complete work orders.
    • Reading and interpreting various maps and logs.
    • Using hand and power tools.
    • Maintain a clean and organized truck and work area.
    • Inspecting and diagnosing water meter problems.
    • Providing respectful and cooperative communication with Utility personal and customers.
    • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public.
    • Applying safe work practices.

    · Must be able to pass a Preemployment Background Check and DOT/DMV Check

    · Valid and Good Driving Record - Driver's License (Required)

    · US work authorization (Required)

    Work is performed in an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions and wildlife. Physical demands consist of sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Use of hands and fingers to handle and feel objects, tools, lifting and carrying moderately heavy meters and boxes up to 100 pounds. Employee wears personal protection equipment. Employee must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction, and communicate verbally and in written form, and must be able to be understood. Employee must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, must be willing to travel and work an irregular schedule, which includes weekends, holidays, and evenings, and/or varying shifts.
