Position Summary

The Gas Meter Reader, Lead is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring all field meter reading activities as well as ensuring that all necessary training of assigned personnel is carried out. Works closely with the Billing Department and advises the Gas Meter Reading Manager on the proper placement of new developments and subdivisions into the read cycles that would strategically be most efficient.

Primary Position Responsibilities

• Assigns routes daily to be completed from the department read schedule.
• Assists meter readers in coordinating their routes to ensure efficiency.
• Assists in generating daily, weekly, and monthly reports that indicates the area as well as each meter reader’s performance.
• Coaches and mentors meter readers to assist them in achieving the Meter Reading Department accuracy standards.
• Ensures that every attempt is made to read every meter in the handheld
• Completes all service orders assigned by the Billing Department within 24 hours.
• Assists the Gas Meter Reader Supervisor with the hiring and training of new employees.
• Identifies problem areas and helps in the development of possible solutions.
• Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
• Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.

Secondary Position Responsibilities

• Receives training as directed by management.
• Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
• Attends CPR/First Aid Training and other training as required.
• Assists Gas Metering Manager in creating, updating, and maintaining department reports and schedules.
• Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots automated Encoder Receiver Transmitter (ERT) modules.
• Attends CoServ University required training.
• Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Education and Certifications Required

• High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.

Experience Required

• Must have five (5) years of meter reading experience.

• Ability to master the operation of handheld meter reading equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow maps.
• Ability to read different types of meters.
• Ability to learn Cooperative’s policies, regulations and procedures.
• Ability to learn Cooperative’s service area and distribution systems.

Physical Requirements

• Works outdoors 30% of the time in all types of weather conditions and environmental conditions.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
• Drives company vehicle.
• Works extended hours as needed or directed.
• Works in potentially hazardous conditions caused by pets and wildlife in or near the work site.
• Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy, and insect stings.
• Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.

• Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
