Microbiologist

Responsibilities

• 
  Supports studies from various projects within Bayer by analyzing different microbial species.
• Contributes to method development for CFU quantitation.
• Performs microbial viability and stability assays according to standard protocols.
• Processes samples to recover microbes in order to culture them in different media.
• Generates and delivers reports to different groups within company.
• Operates, troubleshoots, and performs maintenance on lab equipment.
• Helps with lab maintenance and re-stocking tasks.
• Interacts with different groups inside and outside the organization.

Required Qualifications

• 
  Bachelors in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or related field with 3-5 years of experience.
• Masters in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field with 1-2 years of experience.
• Experience with standard microbiology techniques (e.g., microbial isolation, culture, characterization).
• Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA isolation, purification, PCR, qPCR).
• Experience with qPCR data analysis, instruments and software .
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
• Proficient with microbial sample and solution preparation techniques.
• Proficient with understanding and following GLP methods.
• Results oriented and detail oriented.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact and collaborate with different groups in the company.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to plan, execute, troubleshoot, and prioritize experiments.
• Ability to interpret, report and present complex experimental results to broadly trained audiences throughout the company.

  Experience with sequence analysis.
• Experience designing primers and probes.
• Experience in high-throughput microbiology lab setting.
• Experience with liquid handlers, and automation equipment.
• Experience with Lean Lab practices.
• Experience with LIMS systems.
• Experience creating, reviewing, and editing SOPs.
