The Mine Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     Job Summary:

    The Mine Manager is responsible for the overall operation of Barretts Minerals Mine assets in SW Montana The role leads the mining operations in all aspects from Environmental, Health and Safety to ore reconciliation and control. Site operations is currently seven operator technicians, two maintenance technicians, and technical support staff that safely mine 1,000,000 tons of ore and waste annually.

     

    Compensation: $120k per year, 5% IC 

    Responsibilities

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    • Lead the Mine Operations group, actively care for each team member and carry the overall responsibility for the safety and health of the mine team and environmental stewardship and compliance of the mine site(s).
    • Generate mine operations plans from a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.
    • Coordinate ore supply and quality control to the Plant Site.
    • Oversee the contract haulage of ore to the Plant Site.
    • Engage in MTI Operational Excellence activities and support the OE culture.
    • Coordinate Operations and Maintenance activities for the mobile asset fleet.
    • Maintain cost control for the Mine Operations.
    • Conduct ore reconciliations and inventory monitoring.
    • Engage as a member of the Barretts Leadership Team.
    • Support mineral resource exploration and mine development projects
    • Drive asset management of the Mine fleet and fixed mine assets.
    • Acts as resource and champion for site continuous improvement activities (Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving, etc.).

     

    *This is considered a safety sensitive position, therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of the English language and advanced computer skills is also required. 

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the Mine Manager is typically required to have the ability to operate, monitor, and adjust equipment, including commercial motor vehicles, have manual dexterity, use repetitive motions, regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, squat, climb and twist, select and use appropriate equipment/tools to accomplish job duties. The Mine Engineer must be able to read, write, listen, speak and understand English, follow all instructions and other oral/written information, visually inspect equipment/work area, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately. Ability to instruct/transfer job information/knowledge to others as well as infrequently lift up to 45 pounds is preferred.

     

    Being under minimal supervision, the Mine Manager is expected to be self-directed, take initiative and be persistent when appropriate to accomplish necessary duties and keep busy without prompting from the supervisor.  Additionally, the employee is expected to be adaptable to changing work assignments, coordinate with others, and learn and memorize procedures. In order to do so, the technician must have a high level of integrity, dependability and self control to maintain composure, prioritize work, manage time effectively and efficiently, meet established deadlines, display a cooperative attitude, read, understand and follow all company, job specific/safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.

     

    Education: Minimum of a B.S degree from accredited institution in relevant engineering field such as, but not limited to Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology.

     

    Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required.

     

    Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in hard rock mining is required.

     

    Work Hours: Must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays and weekends, as necessary.  Call-ins may occur as needed.

     

    Working Conditions: While Barretts Minerals Inc. provides safe working conditions within all rules, regulations, and policies set forth by governing agencies as well as stricter internal guidelines, technicians are sometimes exposed to demanding conditions. Some duties are completed outside, so technicians may be exposed to weather related conditions including heat/cold, poor lighting conditions, wind, dust, and precipitation events.

     

    Safety Equipment: Safety equipment typically required while performing the duties of this job include a personal lockout/tagout lock, ANSI approved hardhat and safety glasses with sideshields, and safety shoes/boots with steel toe protection.  Hearing protection is required for certain tasks.  Additionally, harness and lanyard are required when working at heights. Additional personal protective equipment is available for use if a situation arises where it becomes required or if it is simply desired by the technician.

     

    Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual, which consists of eight hours of classroom training and 16 hours of on the job training.  It will include, but is not limited to, the following: forklift/mobile

    equipment operation and certification/licensing, hazard communication, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, electrical safety, lock out/tag out, personal protective equipment, blood borne pathogens, fire fighting/extinguishers, machine safety, confined spaces, reporting of hazardous conditions, accidents, injuries, near-miss and property damage incidents, evacuation/emergency procedures, first aid, back injury prevention, and job/work area procedures. 

     

    Upon transferring to perform the duties of this position for the first time, an employee is to be provided New Task Training by a qualified individual until the employee adequately understands the contents of the training, which include job/work area procedures and related topics.  Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.

     

    Additional refresher safety training may be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by MSHA/OSHA regulations.

     

    Language Skills: The Mine Engineer must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Also required is the ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and to effectively present information or respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

     

    Reasoning Ability: The Mine Engineer must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions as well as interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Also required is the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
