    Position:

    The UWA Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biology.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field (ABD candidates will be considered).
    • Expertise teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
    • Commitment to quality teaching.
    • Ability to direct undergraduate and graduate research.
    • Demonstrated potential and dedication to attract extramural funding.
    • Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, staff, and students from varied socio-economic/ethnic backgrounds.

    Desired:

    • Postdoctoral experience in modern and emerging technologies.
    • Recent research publications.
    • Successful teaching in a small student-centered regional university setting.
    • Successful experience in directing undergraduate and graduate research.
    • Experience and interest in instructional technologies.
    • Successful experience in advising students.
    • Experience with online courses.
    • A commitment to be involved in recruiting students to programs.
    • Ability and willingness to secure external funding through grant writing.

    Responsibilities:

    • Teach various biology courses, as well as senior/graduate level courses in area of expertise, and general freshman biology courses.
    • Teach campus and online courses based on departmental needs.
    • Direct undergraduate and graduate research.
    • Serve on departmental and University committees.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson and Dean.
    • Fulfill other duties expected of a faculty member, such as student advising, departmental recruitment and retention activities, public service, etc.

    Salary:

    • Dependent upon training and experience; includes excellent health benefits package
