Health Technician (Telemetry Monitor)

  • Duties

    Duties include but not limited to:

    • Provide continuous monitoring of cardiac rate, rhythm, and patterns of conduction at a monitoring station.
    • Measures, prints and interprets rhythms at designated intervals and as needed per patient clinical presentation.
    • Recognizes and reports to appropriate professional care providers, any changes in a patient's rhythm that are outside of established parameters; promptly validates and responds to alarm conditions for each patient; continuously monitors invasive and non-invasive vital signs and patient response to treatments while undergoing various procedures and medication regimens; and recognizes life threatening situations and notifies the Registered Nurse, simultaneously initiating emergency procedures.
    • Interprets 5 and 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKG) strips, including cardiac rhythm and rate using designated length of strip/time frames; and obtains and evaluates cardiac rhythm strips within routine, established time-frames, and as needed when associated with changes in patient rhythm potentially due to abnormalities and arrhythmias.
    • Maintains accurate documentation and computer data input for all information gathered to formulate a permanent record of the EKG.
    • Troubleshoots and identifies equipment malfunction or failure; and monitors supply levels.

    Work Schedule: Various Tours of Duty 7:00pm - 7:30am six 12 shifts and one 8 hour shifts per pay period. Subject to change depending on the needs of the agency.

    Physical Requirements: The work involves long periods of standing and walking. The incumbent must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and over freely. Positioning and lifting patients requires considerable effort and working in awkward positions. Occasionally, the employee prevents the patient from performing destructive acts against self, others or property. Manual dexterity is mandatory; may be required to lift weights up to 60 pounds utilizing good body mechanics and appropriate equipment.

    Qualifications

    GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Skill in basic nursing practices sufficient to discern emergency situations related to telemetry monitoring, abnormal vital signs, blood pressure monitor and ability to troubleshoot to resolve technical problems
