    First Security Bank & Trust in Charles City IA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Collection Specialist. As a Collection Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the financial stability of both our customers and the bank itself.     POSITION SUMMARY:  Understand and comply with collection systems and process at all stages to reduce delinquencies in the Residential Real Estate and Consumer loan portfolio.  Communicate with customers verbally and in writing regarding past due accounts and the collection process.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintain daily follow-up of delinquent accounts to ensure adherence to repayment schedules and keep complete contact records of such activity.  Report results of collection activity with appropriate recommendations to Loan Operations Supervisor and/or Credit Committee as required.
    • Understand and follow the delinquency reporting triggering events for both in-house and secondary market loans.  Stay current with changes.
    • Work with underwriters and retail advisors to eliminate delinquencies.
    • Recommend workout plans for consumer and residential real estate customers.
    • Initiate repossession of vehicles when necessary.   Follow through on process to notify customer of their rights and then preparation of vehicle for resale.  Oversee process to liquidate these assets in a timely manner.
    • Serve as contact point for all bankruptcy proceedings related to loan customers of the bank.  Work through attorneys to protect the bank’s interest.
    • Participate in the collection process.   Fully document all calls and follow up within the appropriate software.
    • Work with Bank legal counsel to file small claims when appropriate for loan and deposit customers.
    • Balance internal accounts related to the collection function.
    • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of departmental software.   Utilize software to do report writing.
    • Participate in the bank sponsored events as outlined in the bank’s “Community Events Program”.
    • Maintain REO and repo log. Report this to CCO for auditing.
    • Train additional staff on collection duties to serve as a backup.
    • Assist in the Loan Operations department as needed.
    • Perform additional duties as they become assigned or apparent.

    DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

    • Basic understanding of bookkeeping or business accounting.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  The ability to communicate professionally and effectively.
    • High level of comfort working with technology in a windows-based environment.  Ability to use digital resources to locate past due customers.  Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and software.
    • Good organizational skills. 
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Goal Oriented.
    • A valid driver’s license.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:   2-year AA degree in business or related degree or equivalent work experience

    Experience:  3 year’s work experience in a position with a high degree of customer contact and service.  Any experience working with past due customers is a plus.
