MORTGAGE LOAN OFFICER I
Non-Exempt
Reports to: Real Estate Lending Leader
Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to assist Members First Credit Union to deliver on its mission: To encourage a better tomorrow. Essential Duties
- Have and maintain an NMLS Number.
- To educate members of the different types of mortgage loans available at Members First Credit Union.
- To have and maintain up-to-date product knowledge and complete continuing education as necessary to industry requirements.
- Assist other MLO's with member borrower preparations for interview to submit fully complete loan application
- Assists or performs Interview, receive and submit fully completed loan application(s) to the processing team while maintaining compliance with Federal, State and Credit Union Lending Policies, Regulations and Guidelines.
- Can perform or Assist with delivery of Initial Disclosure Packages, Closing Disclosures to member borrowers for all staff originating MLOs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve member and internal inquiries in a timely, friendly and accurate manner, answering questions effectively and provide information as requested.
- Submit for approval loan requests for members who meet loan qualifications, or refer applications to the Lending Leader, VP Lending, President/CEO or the Board of Directors as per the loan policy.
- Submit all loans for denial of the loan application and prepare an HMDA maintenance / reason for denial for adverse action letter as required by law for loan requests that do not fall within current lending guidelines
- Required to travel to MFCU branch locations when requested & necessary to perform loan interview functions
- Must meet & maintain all necessary loan origination production standards as established by management for Annual Mortgage Production Goals
- Must participate regularly and represent MFCU @ area realtor /builder/ referral partner 3rd party events . (i.e. Board of Realtors, Chamber Of Commerce, Kiwanas, Realtor CE workshops etc. ) to perform business development & foster relationship opportunities
Duties and Responsibilities

- Deliver on the Credit Union’ Service Promises in every service situation.
- Provide prompt, professional, helpful, knowledgeable and courteous member service while maintaining a courteous, friendly atmosphere for members and co-worker.
- Report any violation or error to Credit Union Leadership.
- Increase loan volume by cross selling additional loan products using information obtained from the member credit report.
- Be a visible presence in the local community and promote the credit union and gain leads through participation in business, community, chamber, and charitable organization activities as assigned.
- Maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.
- Access credit-reporting system and review report and compare against the loan application.
- Calculate debt ratios on applicants.
- Create opportunities for expanded member relationships by determining member needs for additional products and services.
- Prepare all documents pertaining to the loan and review for errors and/or omissions.
- Secure all documents and signatures to perfect any liens or notes and security agreements.
- Obtain proof of income from the member(s) when there is no current substantiation of income in file
- Obtain proof of insurance on collateral, when applicable.
- Hybrid job role work position - with minimum 3 days - in branch office with advance weekly provided calendar

- Meet minimum referral and sales requirements @ 50% level or greater of the required minimum production and/or Annual Production Goal Standard. .
- Maintain Sales Records
- Required to participate & perform all training tasks related to Sales & Loan Origination Development Coaching when they are routinely assigned and made available.

- Ability to work overtime, attend meetings, seminars and travel.
- Must have flexibility to deal with changing work hours and locations as needed.

- Routinely clean and disinfect work areas (i.e. teller stations, desk surfaces, phones, electronic equipment).
- Protect the confidentiality of credit union staff and members by locking door or removing items from desk/workstation when away.
Education and Experience
- Active/Valid NMLS ID or ability to obtain a new NMLS ID upon hire or job transfer into this role
- One to three years similar or related experience :
- A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program. This is the wording to work with for update
- A working knowledge of loan processing and credit analysis.
- Knowledge of the secondary market and experience with first and second mortgage and other residential real estate lending.
- Experience operating a personal computer and mortgage software.
- Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Desktop Underwriter/FNMA & Loan Product Advisor /FHLMC , Rural Development - USDA-GUS
