    Job Summary:

     

    The Director of Control Systems will play a pivotal role in the company, leading the development of a new control system for our next-generation solar trackers and overseeing continuous improvement of the existing control-system products. You’ll manage a team of engineers to follow Array processes to implement new features and drive down costs. The work will involve developing custom hardware and software, with cutting-edge technologies in electrical, controls, and software engineering.

     

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    • Manage a team of electrical and embedded-software engineers to develop a new control system for solar trackers and improve the existing control system.
    • Report the status of work regularly to the hiring manager and senior management; Identify problems and recommend solutions.
    • Understand the system requirements for existing and new solar trackers; From the tracker requirements, deduce the control system requirements as well as the requirements for the hardware and software components.
    • Lead and contribute to the implementation of new algorithms and features into existing solar tracker control systems.
    • Analyze the current organization structure for control system development and recommend improvements, including key hires.
    • Work with electronics design companies and suppliers, scoping and overseeing their work as necessary.
    • Work with internal and external stakeholders to deploy and test the new control system products, features, and software at real solar sites; travel as necessary.
    • Work with internal and external stakeholders to investigate and resolve control-system failures; travel as necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications:

     

    • Master’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or other Natural Sciences.
    • Demonstrated ability of managing teams and projects.
    • 5 years of industry experience in a related field.
    • 3 years of experience in designing, implementing, and commercializing control-system products that use microcontrollers or microprocessors. The candidate must show a successful track record of control-system product development and commercialization. The candidate will be asked to present his/her portfolio in the interview process.
    • 2 years of experience in working with electrical circuit design companies, PCBA suppliers, and certifiers.
    • Passion for solar industry.

     

    Preferred qualifications:

     

    • 3 years of experience in solar industry
    • Experience in designing control systems for solar trackers or other motor control systems and products.
    • Experience in commercializing products that use STM32 microcontrollers or equivalent.
    • Skills and experience in programming microcontrollers in C/C .
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, smaller company environment; Ability and experience in building and improving in-house product development processes and practices for control-system products.
    • Skills and experience in PC software development to assist the control system testing and validation.
    • Skills and experience in Python programming.
    • Working knowledge of Siemens PLC ladder logic.
