Network Engineer develops and deploys plans and designs of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Conducts network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Being a Network Engineer defines monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Troubleshoots network issues and develops appropriate solutions, resources, and deployment processes. Additionally, Network Engineer keeps informed of the latest technologies to enhance knowledge of networking hardware, software, and best practices. May be certified in vendor-specific products. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Network Engineer work is closely managed. JOB SUMMARY
Research, develop, and administer the City’s extensive local and wide area networks. Duties include maintaining networking communications with protocols such as OSPF, BGP, Spanning tree, and VXLAN. Administration of networking devices via scripting/automation, SDN, and other modern methods. Administration of modern communication platforms including Wi-Fi, Microware Radio, cellular, fiber optics and others. Enhanced focus on application of security at all levels of the networking stack preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of responsible experience in network administration; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.
Network Engineering Certificate desirable.
