Quality Control Technician

  • The Quality Control Technician tests and inspects concrete, aggregates, and asphalt products before and during manufacturing at the production plants, as well as at job sites using a variety of testing equipment and procedures to maintain and ensure products conform to required specifications. This is a skilled position involving responsibility for the safe sampling and testing of materials. Responsibilities include the proper collection of materials to be tested, proper and accurate analysis of the materials, and accurate reporting and documentation of results. Driving a company vehicle will be required.  What you will do: Cultivate a positive work environment and positive safety culture in area of responsibility Safely and efficiently collect samples for testing aggregates, concrete, and asphalt materials. Perform sampling, testing, and reporting procedures according to established protocol, having the ability to test material samples and recording test results in a timely and accurate manner. Perform calculations, provide documentation, and communicate data. Maintain a daily record of test results, prepare daily reports, and submit results to project lead technician or main lab supervisor. Advise supervisor of unusual test results or results that do not meet specifications. Ensure work performed meets department standards, participate in continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management, and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure. Properly follow all company policies and regulations for safe working procedures and environmental best practices. Verify outside construction materials testing laboratory results and maintain accurate, timely records of test data, product quality, and defective materials.     Use Lastrada as the main software for the lab on the aggregate/asphalt division. Required: Familiarity with industry standards and specifications as well as knowledge of both ready-mix and asphalt manufacturing design, processes, and equipment.  Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.  Knowledge of office systems, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, i.e., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel Three (3) years of laboratory testing experience in ready-mix concrete and construction aggregate properties.  One (1) year of asphalt testing experience. TXDOT level 1A HMA and AGG 101 certification or  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work under pressure and availability to work at any given time on any given day.  Demonstrated ability to plan and organize and to work independently.   Additional Required Competencies: Strong Work Ethic: Uses time efficiently and ensures job duties, issues, and concerns are handled in a timely, appropriate manner.  Integrity: Acts with unyielding integrity and honesty in business transactions, promoting company policies, and holding self-accountable.
