Nurse Practitioner - Women's Health works in collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to provide medical care and treatment in women's clinic setting. Provides care to women from adolescence through menopause, with a focus on reproduction and gynecology. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Women's Health orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Women's Health assesses patient condition and may provide treatment using specialized medical equipment. Works in outpatient settings, responding to high patient volumes in short-term spans and dealing with unpredictable situations and issues. Follows established guidelines and protocols. Requires a master's degree. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Nurse Practitioner - Women's Health's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     Position Summary:

    Provides primary care to patients under the supervision of a physician preceptor, following established medical protocols.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
    • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required, and adjusts processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
    • Collaborates with physician preceptor to formulate and review medical protocols.
    • Obtains complete medical history of the patient.
    • Identifies health hazards in the patient's environment as well as patient risk factors. Identifies and considers the cultural patterns, economic status and patient resources in plan of care.
    • Performs appropriate physical exam as indicated.
    • Obtains appropriate laboratory specimens.
    • Analyzes objective and subjective data for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
    • Assures treatment and/or plan of care is consistent with established protocols.
    • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records and maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc. Documents all pertinent information accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner.
    • Follows Medicare guidelines for accuracy in CPT and ICD coding.
    • Applies the fundamentals of AIDET when communicating with patients.
    • Refers patient to appropriate services which exceed scope of practice of the practitioner.
    • Provide health promotion counseling and develop patient teaching information.
    • Serves as a resource person for other staff personnel. May supervise clinical staff.
    • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
    • Collaborate with the patient, physician and other care team members as part of a team based approach to overall patient care.
    • Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
    • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:           

    None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

     

    Minimum Experience:         

    One (1) year experience

     

    Licensure Requirement:

    Current DEA license. Must have and maintain certification by the American Nurse Association (ANA) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) with specialty applicable to the area of responsibility – Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology, Psychiatric-Mental Health. Must meet state licensure requirements. CPR required.
