    The Director of Clinical Education in Nursing is responsible for overseeing and managing the clinical education for nursing and assisting with managing the daily operation of the nursing program. This includes developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical experiences that align with the STCC nursing curriculum, as well as collaborating with clinical partners and faculty to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical education. The Director of Clinical Education in Nursing is required to contribute to the achievement of the STCC School of Health & Patient Simulation/ Department of Nursing academic goals. This includes but is not limited to the development of sufficient numbers of satisfactory clinical placements necessary to meet enrollment objectives determined by the administration. Additional duties involve monitoring the quality of training sites, adjunct/part time faculty development, and assist with clinical medical clearance of students, and student progress in all aspects of training. Incumbent must assure that the STCC Nursing philosophy and competencies are considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Director of Clinical Education in Nursing position provides leadership and counsel to faculty and students. They assist with monitoring trends in nursing education, participate in research, ensure adherence to federal, state, college, and program regulations, maintain accreditation standards, and establish strategic partnerships. The Director of Clinical Education in Nursing is responsible for helping to create an environment conducive to teaching and learning. It is their responsibility to lead, educate, and guide staff and students toward achieving established program goals/objectives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement clinical education that align with the nursing curriculum and meet the standards of the program.
    • Collaborate with clinical partners to ensure that clinical experiences are available and appropriate for nursing students.
    • Work with faculty to integrate clinical experiences into the nursing curriculum.
    • Identify available clinical facilities for student training and assist with the recruitment and follow up efforts in the acquisition of appropriate clinical sites.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate clinical sites.
    • Communicates with clinical sites to remain current with facilities current policies and practice.
    • Maintain relationships with preceptors/site liaisons and assures guidelines for site use are followed.
    • Provide evaluation of existing qualified sites on a regular basis, including on-site visits to clinical sites.
    • Participate in quality assurance activities to evaluate the efficacy and relevance of clinical training experiences relative to stated objectives and needs.
    • Attend meetings and manage CCP as appropriate for clinical facilities.
    • Provide supervision and guidance to clinical instructors and preceptors.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of clinical education programs and make necessary modifications to improve student learning outcomes.
    • Provide education and training for clinical adjunct faculty.
    • Provide regular on-site visits to clinical facilities for adjunct faculty training and mentoring.

    • Work with Assistant Dean to manage clinical contracts. (Secure affiliation agreements with new clinical sites in conjunction with college legal office/designee and assure that affiliations are up to date).
    • Collect, track and process data for student practicum/internships.
    • Work with level team coordinators for student clinical placement.
    • Work with level team coordinators to ensure proper documentation procedures with regard to contracts, clinical site evaluations, students' evaluations and documentation to the SPE.
    • Oversee, administer and maintain required forms.
    • Provide clinical placement progress reports or changes concerning clinical requirements.
    • Prepare and archive reports and evaluation studies rated to program accreditation.
    • Assist the Assistant Dean of Nursing with special projects supporting the program.
    • Assist the Assistant Dean of Nursing in maintaining effective coordination, good communication, and positive morale among STCC full-time and part-time nursing faculty and staff.
    • Assume other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean/Director of nursing.
    • Attend faculty and staff meetings as directed, serve on committees as appropriate and provide updates as needed.
    • Promote engagement in inter-professional education.
    • Responsible for coordinating and teaching orientation classes/workshops for student admissions and re-admissions.
    • Assist with departmental functions such as Nursing club, DING, committee work, full faculty meeting, SPE, Accreditation, grants, outside meetings, simulation data collection and analysis, SPE reports, as needed within the Department of Nursing and the School of Health & Patient Simulation.

    • Assist with the ongoing development and maintenance of the Systematic Evaluation Plan and required reports.

    Personnel:

    • Assist with recruiting hiring, supervising, and evaluate faculty and staff.
    • Assist with management/verification of onboarding and annual faculty compliance.
    • Design, orient, monitor, encourage and support professional development of faculty and staff.
      • Ensure orientation of newly hired Nursing faculty for adjunct and full time.
      • Ensure proper administration of human resource policies and procedures as defined by the college, SHPS, and Department.
      • Foster development of the team concept of the Department of Nursing responsibility and commitment to SHPS goals and mission by encouraging active participation.
      • Work with full and part time faculty providing support, guidance, and mentorship including one to one development as needed.
    • Evaluate adjunct faculty and staff, and communicate and manage issues with the Assistant Dean of Nursing.
    • Support and oversee the overall development of the department faculty and staff

    Leadership:

    • Serve as a mentor to faculty, staff and students in the Department of Nursing.
    • Disseminate current information pertaining to health care, nursing education and higher education.

    • Collaborate with Student Services, Disability Services and other student support services.
    • Assist in the recruitment of students.
    • Assist with the coordination and implementation process for NCLEX examination.
    • Assist with the management of students with various academic and behavioral issues.
    • Coordinate and manage processes for student withdrawals, failures, readmissions etc.
    • Work collaboratively with Department Chair and teams to assure compliance with all onboarding requirements.
    • Assist with recruitment and retention of students in the Nursing Department.
    • Assist with review of student academic appeals and grievances.
    • Provides orientation for new nursing student admissions and readmissions.
    • Assists with recruitment of students and assist with information sessions.

    Budgets:

    • Assist the Assistant Dean of Nursing with the annual budget planning process including operating and capital expenditures.
    • Assist with managing software and other programs/products that enhance the nursing curriculum, contracts (Exam Soft, Kaplan).

    College Responsibilities:

    • Develop and maintain the relationship between the Department of Nursing and the college system including, but not limited to, acting as a liaison with campus academic programs, departments and administrators.
    • Serve on college committees as needed.
    • Oversee the implementation and enforcement of college standards policies and procedures.
    • Maintain professional working relationships with administrative authorities, faculty, and other academic and support units.
    • Support the philosophy and mission of the College.
    • Assist in marketing and recruitment efforts.
    • Provide reports and data to the College as needed.
    • Review each potential graduate academic evaluation and verify eligibility for graduation.
    • Attend, participate, coordinate honors convocation, commencement and pinning.

    Community Responsibilities:

    • Represent the college to academic and professional education communities, students and alumni.
    • Develop and maintain the relationship between the Department of Nursing and outside organizations/systems, including but not limited to, acting as a liaison with nursing/academic programs, departments and administrators.

    • Ensure timely revision of college policies and procedures and completion of reports.
    • Assist with obtaining new clinical sites and assist with maintaining contracts.
    • Assist with coordinating pinning ceremonies, open houses, orientations, and other events.

    Accreditation and Governing Bodies:

    • Implement the rules and regulations of external accrediting agencies.
    • Assist with the management and updating of the BORN/ACEN SEP monthly.
    • Monitor/direct faculty and update SEP reporting.
    • Ensure adherence to federal and state laws governing nursing education.
    • Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations to enhance compliance.
    • Achieve and maintains national and state accreditation for the College's nursing program.
    • Participate in regional accreditation reviews and reports as requested.

    • Assure that the program is maintained current in regard to standards of practice and health care needs of the community.
    • Assist with monitoring of current trends & issues in nursing profession and find ways to implement suitable changes.
