Nutrition Director directs and oversees all aspects of an organization's or institution's nutrition guidelines and initiatives. Oversees institution of basic nutrition plans including individualized menu plans and monitors intake and acceptance of meals, snacks, and supplements. Being a Nutrition Director monitors and ensures proper nutrition education is provided. May oversee menu planning or food service operations. Additionally, Nutrition Director requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) from Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Typically reports to top management. The Nutrition Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Nutrition Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. CHILD NUTRITION SUPERVISOR (#4561)

  • Students cannot learn if they are hungry, so it is important to make sure that all students are fed nutritious and delicious breakfasts and lunches. Driving forward the equity goal of providing a healthy and delicious feeding program for all students, the Child Nutrition Supervisor ensures students' needs are met by developing healthy menus and strategically training child nutrition staff to promote equity, quality, and integrity in student meals and nutrition education.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:     

    • Design and implement systems for menu plans, food orders, food production, and food inventory for district food services
    • Develop and update recipes based on considerations of student preference, allergies, special diets, and available staff and equipment
    • Develop and distribute training materials to cafeteria managers regarding food management system, food production methods, inventory management, and food defense systems
    • Supervise central kitchen food ordering, food storage/inventory, and food distribution to sites
    • Supervise district catering program
    • Manage the Child and Adult Care Food Program for preschool sites
    • Manage Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program and Farm to School Program
    • Design and facilitate classroom education and district wellness programs as scheduled by the Director of Child Nutrition
    • Maintain documentation necessary for administrative reviews and county health inspections
    • Conduct site reviews to ensure compliance with all related federal, state, local, and district mandates and guidelines
    • Assist in developing training options and/or improvement plans to ensure the best operation in the area of food service
    • Substitute at school cafeterias as needed
    • Perform other duties as assigned

     









    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    ·         Bachelor’s Degree, or combination of experience and technical training that is comparable to a degree or certification program completion requirements.

    ·         3 or more years of foodservice experience

    ·         ServSafe Certification


    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    ·         Supervisory Experience

    ·         School Lunch and Breakfast Program experience

    ·         Summer Food Program experience

     


     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

     

    Knowledge of:

    • Hazards Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles
    • Dietary guidelines, nutritional standards, calorie calculations and other school lunch and breakfast program regulations

    Skilled in:

    • Verbal and written communication and dissemination of information, including record-keeping and analysis
    • Effectively presenting information and responding to questions from cafeteria staff, district administrators, and the public

    Ability to:

    • Calculate food quantities by weekly and monthly menus
    • Understand principles and methods of quantity food service preparation, serving and storage.
    • Work efficiently with minimum supervision, exhibiting excellent judgment regarding food and employee safety
    • Promote harmonious working relationships with staff and outside representatives through excellent interpersonal relationship skills

Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
