Description
Responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of power plant and all associated equipment in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and operating directives in effect. Provides all aspects of electrical services including; equipment inspection, equipment repair, and system testing /troubleshooting. Supply technical guidance to various departments and facilities as requested. Trains and guides less experienced maintenance personnel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred but not required; completion of applicable technical or vocational training, including completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program; 3-4 years related power plant maintenance experience. Desired qualifications: Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacities limitations, theories of operation and operating procedures. Knowledge of plant design and equipment locations, valve configurations, and normal range of flows, temperatures, levels, etc, for common production levels. Knowledge of complex electrical and automatic control systems. Safe use of tools, plant safety rules, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation. Detailed knowledge of electrical test equipment and troubleshooting. Basic to intermediate computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions; procedure manuals; prints and engineering data; interpret charts, graphs and gauge scales; troubleshoot equipment and system problems; and interface with others. Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, use a radio, and be able to speak effectively before groups of people.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Valid California Driver's License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Overtime is required as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme heat; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud on occasion can be very loud.
