Curie.Bio was designed by founders for founders. Our founding team of Zach Weinberg, Christoph Lengauer and Alexis Borisy, has collectively helped start numerous therapeutics companies and been intimately involved with the Series A financing of many more. We have witnessed first hand the difficulty of going from a seed stage concept to generating the data package necessary for a successful Series A raise; targets need to be properly selected, experiment plans designed, vendors selected and contracted, experiments need to be run, people need to be hired - all with a few million dollars. These perennial challenges are what led to the creation of Curie.Bio. If we want to dramatically increase the number of viable drug companies created every year - we’re going to have to reduce the complexity of getting to a compelling POC data package required for a Series A. Reducing this complexity requires us to provide real support to these new companies - support that is both strategic (think target selection, unique access to strategic partnerships, early introductions to top Series A investors) and operational (experiment execution, vendor management, back office support). 

As an early employee joining us on this mission, you will see first hand what it takes to successfully bring a company from concept at the seed stage to compelling wet-lab derived POC data with an industry-grade progressible drug (candidate) that enables a Series A financing. You will work alongside the world’s best drug hunters and industry veterans whose experience spans all facets of drug discovery and preclinical drug development - from disease biology to medicinal chemistry, to recruiting, to business development, and more.

The Role

Our Associates and Senior Associates contribute to making investment decisions and contribute to the process that ensures the Founders of our portfolio companies successfully raise a Series A. As a member of the CSO Partner Team, you will learn firsthand what makes a compelling therapeutic concept, how to create a highly efficient experiment plan to generate compelling POC data, what it takes to drive the day-to-day execution of that experiment plan, and finally how to package up that data to successfully raise a Series A…all at unprecedented scale (growing to ~50 new companies per year!).

You will be supporting Founders in their Curie.Bio journey, from inbound to Series A, across the following dimensions:

• Discover Transformational Ideas in Biotech: Identify and evaluate company concepts and areas of unmet patient need through deep dives into the scientific literature, and networking with industry leaders, academics, and other investors.
• Company Evaluation: Introduce Curie.Bio to Founders, review a high volume of therapeutics company concepts to help determine which companies are compelling seed investments, and participate in investment committee deep dives.
• Experiment Planning: Support the creation of an efficient experiment plan that will generate compelling POC data that will be a clear value inflection point for the company, thus unlocking the Series A financing. 
• Experiment Execution: Support the execution of the plan through to the Series A raise as part of their scientific and operational team. You will work closely with Curie’s broader team of drug hunters and external vendor network to generate the POC data.
• Series A Fundraising: Support the Founders in raising their Series A from the investor list to the materials including the presentation, the data package, and the post financing plan (including Series B milestones, roadmap, hiring plan, budget, etc).
• Project Management: Act as a project manager who drives all aspects of bringing a complex team together, and makes sure that all input is considered.

Requirements and Qualifications

• PhD or PhD/MD in biology, biochemistry, or related field
• Experience in business strategy, management consulting, or in a biotech startup environment is a plus
• Experience in having to quickly develop a knowledge base in new areas of science
• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate a deep level of scientific understanding 
• Demonstrated excellence in something scientific
• Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment (no job is too big or too small)
• Ability to work with a sense of urgency, attention to detail, and deliver high quality results
• Highly immersed in the world of therapeutics – news, literature, companies, etc.
• A love for big picture thinking – traversing both science and business with agility
• Exceptional ability and desire to build and cultivate relationships
