Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager.   • Job Overview:
    We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologists in providing comprehensive eye care to patients. Your primary responsibilities will include performing diagnostic tests, obtaining patient medical histories, and assisting with various procedures.

    We will provide additional training for someone who is new to the field and is motivated.

    Responsibilities:
    - Perform preliminary eye function testing, including visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and visual field testing
    - Administer eye drops and medications as directed by the ophthalmologist
    - Obtain patient medical histories and document relevant information accurately
    - Assist with various procedures such as tonometry, pachymetry, and fundus photography
    - Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and answering any questions they may have
    - Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
    - Ensure compliance with aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
    - Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
    - Provide support to front desk staff as needed

    Skills:
    - Strong knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and equipment
    - Proficient in medical office operations and patient management
    - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    - Knowledge of medical billing processes and coding systems
    - Understanding of anatomy related to the eye and visual system
