Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. Duties:
- Assist ophthalmologist in providing exceptional patient care in a busy ophthalmology setting
- Perform preliminary eye exams, including measuring visual acuity and intraocular pressure
- Administer eye drops and medications as directed by healthcare providers
- Conduct diagnostic tests, such as visual field testing, OCT and retinal imaging
- Prepare patients for procedures and surgeries, including sterilizing instruments and setting up equipment
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
- Handle medical billing and coding tasks
- Triage patients over the phone and refill prescriptions

Skills:
-Reliable and trustworthy
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and equipment
- Proficiency in medical coding and billing systems
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems, such as Nextech
- Excellent customer service skills
- Compassionate and caring towards elderly patients
- Bilingual is preferred

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Pay will depend on experience.
