Organizational Development Director directs the design, planning, and implementation of corporate organizational development programs, policies, and procedures. Approves change management initiatives and suggests enhancements to existing programs. Being an Organizational Development Director oversees the development of programs to build human capital and a strong employee development culture. Reviews key performance metrics to enable accurate and valid measurement of workforce performance and to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, Organizational Development Director proposes changes to organizational structure to leverage talent and provide development opportunities to key leaders in the organization. Develops systematic collection and evaluation of performance metrics. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Organizational Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Job Description

    The Director of Development will play a key role in bringing utility-scale solar and energy storage projects from conception through construction in locations across the United States including greenfield development, but also via acquisition of early and mid-stage development assets.

    The Director of Development will be responsible for identifying and developing new project opportunities, via greenfield and acquisition, across the U.S. The Director will lead a team of project developers and analysts to advance the identified opportunities through all aspects of the development process including real estate acquisition, discretionary permitting, tax abatement negotiation, and community engagement. The Director will interface and coordinate internal resources including engineering, interconnection, project finance and construction to advance projects to Notice to Proceed.

    This position may be based in Scottsdale, AZ New York City or remote with 25-50% travel estimated.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead strategy and implementation of development activities including real estate acquisition, discretionary permitting, tax abatement negotiation, and community engagement.
    • Assess impacts and risks to the project development path, develop mitigation plans and communicate these impacts to pertinent parties.
    • Hire, manage, and mentor a team of 2-5 Project Developers and Analysts to advance development activities across a portfolio of projects.
    • Together with Project Developers, track and manage project real estate including land leasing efforts, title reports, ALTA surveys, etc.
    • Together with Project Developers, negotiate local tax abatements, road use agreements, and decommissioning agreements.
    • Engage positively and network within the landowning communities to bring new solar development opportunities to fruition, overcoming objections, and educating the landowners on the benefits of the project to their community.
    • In collaboration with Arevon's Interconnection team, track interconnection processes, read and understand interconnection studies, and participate in interconnection agreement decisions.
    • In conjunction with the Community Relations team, Eestablish and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including elected officials, regulators, utilities, RTOs, and community leaders to support project development.
    • Manage internal relationships including but not limited to legal, procurement, finance, development, engineering, and construction, and asset management.
    • Understand and uphold company goals, strategies, and best practices to originate and execute project development.

    Experience Requirements

    • 6-10 years' prior experience in renewable energy project development with demonstrated progression of project management responsibility and operating projects.
    • Experience in more than one region (ERCOT, WECC, MISO, etc.).
    • Ability to comprehend complex documents and clearly and effectively communicate project risks and impacts.
    • Self-starter with strong intercultural communication, problem solving, organizational, decision making, and negotiation skills.
    • Experience in managing and leading a team.
    • Proven success in developing multiple projects at one time.

    • Meeting project deadlines
    • Working with internal and external teams, being involved in the project from conception through construction.
    • Regular domestic travel expected up to 50% of the time.
    • Highly proficient in MS Office and associated applications.
    • Must supply deal sheet of accomplished projects, totaling 200 MW or more, across more than one project.

    Education Requirements

    • 4-year degree from an accredited university in engineering, mathematics, business, or similar discipline (Advanced technical or business degrees encouraged)
